Nick Bosa Says It Would Be a 'Big Mistake' If He Doesn't Go No. 1 to Cardinals

Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa has been widely been in the mix, if not the outright consensus, to be the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft for months.

But since Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray declared his eligibility last month, there has been much speculation that the team with the No. 1 overall pick, the Arizona Cardinals, may take Murray instead.

Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury has long admired Murray, fueling the speculation.

Obviously aware of this speculation about Murray, Bosa had some advice for the Cardinals at the NFL Draft Scouting Combine last week.

Bosa, the former Ohio State defensive lineman who only played three games last year due to a bilateral core muscle injury, told reporters at the combine that the Cardinals would be making a “big mistake” if they don’t take him No. 1 overall.

Do you think Bosa should be the No. 1 pick?

Bosa clarified that that’s not a knock on Murray, it’s more about what the defensive end thinks he can do for a team.

“I wouldn’t say anything about Kyler,” Bosa told reporters, according to NFL.com. “I would just say that I’m somebody who loves the game more than anybody. I’m going to come in and I’m going to work everyday, every practice trying to find new things to better myself. If you do draft me, then you have somebody’s who’s going to improve throughout my entire career.”

Bosa was scheduled to have a meeting with the Cardinals on Saturday night, along with other teams, so he had a chance to make his case to GM Steve Keim and Kingsbury in person.

“I’ve been talking myself up pretty good to (NFL teams) so I’m definitely ready to get out on the field, get on the bench (press) tonight and definitely leave no doubt, like I said before,” Bosa said.

Bosa, who gave up his senior season to declare for the draft, pointed out to NFL.com that he played under Cardinals linebackers coach Bill Davis at Ohio State for two years before Davis signed on with Arizona. So he does have an “in” there.

“That would just mean so much to me to be thought of as the best player in the draft,” Bosa added.

Bosa had 8.5 sacks and 16 tackles for a loss in 2017 and was named All-Big Ten and Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year. He had 4 sacks in just three games last year.

We’ll find out where he goes on April 25th when the NFL Draft begins.
