Patriots Player Under Fire for 'Violating' Opponent on Football Field

Share

“Professional football is a genteel, civilized contest between gentlemen,” said no one ever, and that goes double for New York Jets fans when the opponent is the New England Patriots.

Indeed, the “bottom of the pile” where control of the football is fought for is one of the dirtiest fights not just in all of sports, but in all walks of life.

And it is in this context that Patriots wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson gave Jets defensive tackle Henry Anderson a little taste of Tchaikovsky during the Pats’ 27-13 win.

In Boston, the local classic rock radio station has been encouraging their fans to “grab your Stones” as they give away tickets to a Rolling Stones concert at Gillette Stadium next summer.

Patterson took that advice a little too close to heart.

Patterson was also completely unapologetic, using what he believed to be Anderson’s intentions as the reason his otherwise illegal use of the hands was justified.

He told reporters, “The man was all in my face, trying to put his (expletive) in my face. I tried to move him out of there.”

Should Patterson be fined or suspended for the way he grabbed Henry Anderson?

Pressed for further comment by the New York Post, Patterson doubled down both on his non-apology and on the vulgarity.

“I’m a grown man. I don’t need anybody’s ass and (junk) in my face, man.”

Anderson, meanwhile … well, when you admit that “somebody else pushed me — maybe [Josh] Gordon — and I was flopping around trying to draw a flag,” maybe you deserve a bit of proper retribution from the enemy for acting like a soccer player.

Asked whether it hurt being grabbed by the manly bits, Anderson said, “I didn’t realize that. I didn’t feel it. It didn’t hurt because I could have noticed it if it hurt. I was tackling in a weird position and kind of rolled over him, and kind of tried to … if he’s in a weird position and he’s on his back and I’m on top of him, I’m going to kind of get up slow and try to … you do certain stuff like that throughout the game, little things like that here and there. Little stuff like that happens all the time. A lot of stuff you’d have to have a camera right on to see.”

Which, lo and behold, someone had a camera right on it. Funny how that works.

Meanwhile, in an admirable case of “stand by your man,” Anderson’s fiancee, Saryn Rorie, chastised the case of a defensive player getting sacked.

It is often said that out of even the worst incidents in sports, some positives can come, as everybody learns a valuable lesson.

So men, commemorate the occasion by doing a self-exam for testicular cancer. And thank Cordarrelle Patterson if he just saved your life.
