Punishment handed down after radio host's comments about Olympian Chloe Kim

Share

Update: Patrick Connor has been fired from his job at KNBR. Original story follows below.

Yes, you can’t spell “shock jock” without the word “shock.”

And no, you should rarely, if ever, take the ramblings of a shock jock seriously.

But it was virtually impossible to ignore the sickening and disgusting comments Barstool Sports Sirius XM radio host Patrick Connor made about Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim during Tuesday’s broadcast of “Dialed-In with Dallas Braden.”

On the show, which Connor co-hosts with former MLB pitcher Dallas Braden and comedian Brody Stevens, the discussion came around to Kim winning the gold medal in the women’s snowboarding halfpipe competition in Pyeongchang.

However, instead of talking about the teenager’s resounding win, the hosts ambled on to a topic that should make any normal person’s skin crawl.

“Me, personally, I’m on Twitter, I see Chloe Kim, I’m thinking Khloe Kardashian, Kim [Kardashian], I don’t want to deal with that. So I missed out on the whole Chloe Kim thing. But it’s a good story. She’s into it, a little kid — I’m inspired by it,” Stevens began.

It didn’t take long for the creepy innuendo to begin.

Do you think Patrick Connor's punishment is fair?

“Chloe Kim, famous for riding a very different board than Kim Kardashian,” Braden said.

From there it only got progressively worse. Connor began making wholly inappropriate comments about Kim, who — and this cannot be stressed enough — is only 17 years old.

“Her 18th birthday is April 23, and the countdown is on, baby, ’cause I got my Wooderson going. ‘That’s what I like about them high school girls,'” Connor said, citing a line from the movie “Dazed and Confused.”

Braden initially seemed to interject, voicing audible displeasure at where the conversation was headed. Unfortunately for Braden, Stevens egged Connor on.

“I love it [Connor], I’m right there with you,” said Stevens.

“She’s fine as hell! If she was 18, you wouldn’t be ashamed to say that she’s a little hot piece of a–. And she is. She is adorable. I’m a huge Chloe Kim fan,” Connor said.

For his disgusting and inappropriate comments, Connor is being suspended. For only a week. And not even from the Sirius XM station.

No, Connor is being suspended from his other radio gig, hosting “The Shower Hour with P-Con” on KNBR-AM in San Francisco.

Connor did issue an apology on Twitter.

He also expressed regret to Awful Announcing, saying, “No excuses — just stupid & kinda needy looking for laughs … nobody is laughing. I’m sorry to Chloe & her family … she’s awesome and I’m really embarrassed. Sorry to my employers, colleagues & Stoolies for perpetuating a lame stereotype. Sorry to The Bay Area for making us look bad. I’m prepared to take my medicine.”

On Wednesday’s “Dialed-In with Dallas Braden,” both Braden and Connor expressed contriteness.

Braden apologized and swore that Barstool Sports wasn’t a “gutter brand.”

Connor apologized to both Kim and her father.
