Rising 22-Year-Old MLB Star Arrested on Domestic Violence Charge

Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Julio Urias was arrested Monday night and charged with domestic violence, according to various reports.

TMZ Sports broke the news, saying the 22-year-old was arrested at 9:30 p.m. local time in Los Angeles after an incident at the Beverly Center shopping area.

Urias allegedly was in the parking lot engaged in an argument with a woman and “shoved her to the ground,” according to TMZ Sports.

The incident was reported by a witness.

When police arrived on the scene, the woman denied that anything physical happened, according to TMZ. She insisted that it was just a heated argument.

But witnesses were adamant they saw Urias push her, TMZ reported, citing “sources connected to the situation.” The news outlet reported that video from the scene “appeared to back up the witness accounts.”

Urias was arrested for misdemeanor domestic battery, the report said. He spent the night in jail and was released Tuesday morning after posting $20,000 bail.

Urias started the year in the Dodgers rotation, but he was moved to the bullpen in the middle of April. He has a record of 2-2 with two saves and an ERA of 3.18 this year.

“You look at what his ability is and you look in the bullpen,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told the Los Angeles Times, “you could argue he’s our best arm.”

The hard-throwing left-hander pitched three innings of shutout relief in the Dodgers’ 5-0 win over the Washington Nationals last Friday.

Urias made his debut with the Dodgers in 2016 as a 19 year old when he went 5-2 with a 3.39 ERA.

But a shoulder injury suffered in 2017 forced him to miss half of the 2017 season and almost the entire 2018 season.

Last week, Cubs shortstop Addison Russell returned from a 40-game suspension for domestic violence. He was booed by the home fans in his return to Wrigley Field

The Dodgers, who are 27-16 and lead the NL West, host the San Diego Padres tonight in the first game of a two-game series.
