Tiger Woods hits dubious personal worst he hasn't had in years
Tiger Woods’ most recent comeback has largely been successful compared with past comeback attempts.
He’s still nowhere even remotely close to the player he was when he was winning 14 majors between 1997 and 2008, or even the player he was in 2013 when he won five tournaments.
While he’s not consistently competing for titles, though, Woods is consistently making cuts, playing on the weekend in seven out of eight tournaments this year.
Baby steps.

At this weekend’s Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, Woods once again made the cut, but after shooting a three-under 68 on Saturday, Woods sputtered on Sunday.
The 42-year-old carded a 3-over 74 to finish plus-2 for the tournament in a tie for 55th place. Jason Day, who notched his second win of the year, was 14 shots better.
Woods’ scorecard included three bogeys and no birdies, marking the first time since the final round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral in 2014 that he played a non-major without a birdie, according to ESPN.
Granted, he hasn’t played much since 2014, but it’s only the 11th time in more than 1,000 rounds as a PGA Tour professional that Woods went birdie- or eagle-free, according to Reuters. That’s pretty remarkable.
Woods said it was his putter that let him down.
“I hit the ball halfway decent today … so I wasn’t disappointed with that,” Woods said, reported Reuters. “Again, just did not putt well and didn’t make a birdie today. I got shut out. It was just a bad week.”

Despite one of his worst finished of the year, Woods outlook remains positive.
“I’m very pleased with the way I’m swinging,” he said, according Reuters. “I need obviously to do some practicing with my putter. It’s just a matter of making sure I get the right speed for those greens because [they are] going to be a little bit quicker than here. That’s a golf course you can’t fake it around there and you have to hit the ball well. You can’t get away with hitting it poorly.”
Tiger hopes to get the putter going this week when he plays in the “fifth major,” the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Woods will be paired in the early rounds with Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler.
