Tim Tebow Reveals the Secret to His Health and the 1 Thing He Hasn't Had Since He Was 15

Share

Despite Tim Tebow’s smash-mouth style of play during his football days, the former quarterback largely avoided any sort of significant injuries typically associated with that type of physicality.

Ironically, he suffered a season-ending injury in baseball, but aside from that hiccup, Tebow has largely been a bastion of durability and health during his athletic career.

It goes without saying, but Tebow’s overall health and fitness clearly have played an important role throughout his life.

Now a prospect for the New York Mets, his size and strength have been critical to his hitting.

In a rare glimpse into Tebow’s personal life, the Syracuse Mets slugger spoke to reporters about the secrets powering his health and fitness.

One big aspect of it is a diet focused on minimizing carbohydrate intake.

With the Mets visiting Rochester, New York, this week to take on the Red Wings, Tebow was asked at Frontier Field whether he would try the city’s famous Garbage Plate.

“I’ll try the hamburgers; I can’t eat the potatoes or the macaroni. I’m on a low-carb diet, a keto diet. So I probably won’t try it,” he said, according to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle.

But a far more important facet of his health’s upkeep is Tebow’s Batman-esque discipline.

“I’ve always stuck with my discipline with stuff like that. I’ve kind of always been that way. The things I knew weren’t healthy for me, I’ve stayed away from since I was 15,” he said.

One everyday thing that Tebow has avoided since being 15? Soda.

That’s not to say that his diet is completely devoid of sweets.

“Well, they make keto ice cream now and they make some keto cake,” Tebow said.

The 31-year-old slugger also revealed the lengths to which his discipline goes. Unlike the majority of dieters, Tebow partakes in a whopping zero cheat days.

“Honestly, it’s really tough to splurge,” he said. “My brain just doesn’t allow me to, even though some people have a cheat day or a cheat weekend.”

Tebow elaborated on why he never wanted to stray from healthy eating.

“It’s hard for me to wake up and say, ‘Today is the day I’m not going to get better at something. (This) is when I’m not going to be focused on trying to get better,'” he said. “It’s just not how my brain works. It’s like I’m more at peace if I feel like I’m doing the best thing to get to where I want to go, where my goals are. Every day I want to take another step towards that. Not, ‘Oh this is a good day to relax, so I’m farther from it.'”

It doesn’t get much more “Tebow” than that.

Are you worried about Tim Tebow's slow start the season?

He also acknowledged his early season struggles at the Triple-A level.

“I’ve had some ups and downs. I think I was getting better at the end of this last series (vs. Pawtucket) and getting more comfortable at the place. I was able to get my timing down, so it’s early in the season and you’re trying to get into a groove,” Tebow said.

From the sounds of it, he doesn’t seem particularly worried about the slow start. And given his incomparable discipline, his fans shouldn’t be that worried, either.
