Watch: 335-Pound Offensive Lineman Throws Perfect Touchdown Pass on Trick Play

Share

You see a lot of trick plays at every level of football — from the pros to Pop Warner. They don’t always work, but when they do, there’s nothing more exciting.

What you don’t typically see is a trick play involving a 335-pound left tackle, certainly not one that involves said lineman throwing a touchdown pass.

But that’s exactly what happened in a high school football game last week pitting Bloomingdale High School of Valrico, Florida, against Strawberry Crest High School of Dover, Florida.

Bloomingdale’s left tackle, Ethan Carde, tossed a 27-yard touchdown pass — which was really 35 yards based on where he threw it from — to Terrel Ferrell on a trick play that was perfectly executed.

Carde took his normal place at the line of scrimmage and then when the ball was snapped, he dropped back a few yards and took a backward pass from the quarterback.

Is this the first time you've seen an offensive lineman throw a touchdown pass?

Carde caught the ball and then fired a pretty tight spiral 35 yards, hitting the wide-open Ferrell in stride for the touchdown.

“My coach came up with the idea and we just went out and practiced it,” Carde said after the game, reported USA Today.

Bloomingdale went on to win 51-0 and is 6-0 this season.

“I was like, ‘Oh, I gotta find this man in the end zone or I’m going to get yelled at by Coach (Max) Warner,” Carde said, according to USA Today.

“I was excited,” he said. “I never even scored a touchdown in my life.”

It should put him in the running for the Piesman Trophy, an award SB Nation gives annually to lineman who do un-lineman-like things — like run, pass or catch.

Last year’s winner was Brock Riggs of Division III Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, for this impressive hook-and-ladder play for a touchdown.

Unfortunately, the award is only open to college football players, but maybe they can make an exception for Carde’s pretty spectacular un-lineman-like play.
