Watch: Yankees Star Hit by Baseball After Red Sox Fan Throws HR Ball Back
Giancarlo Stanton blasted a ball high over the Green Monster in Fenway Park for his 38th home run of the season Saturday, but it didn’t stay there long.
A Red Sox fan in the stands made like left fielder Andrew Benintendi and fired the home run ball back into the field of play, hitting Stanton on the elbow as he rounded second base.

The fan was cheered by fans, but security did escort him from the premises.

Stanton didn’t seem to mind. His home run helped propel the Yankees to an 8-5 win, their 100th victory of the season. The blast also gave him 100 RBI for the year.
The Yankees also set a major-league record for most home runs by a team in a season. The Bronx Bombers have hit 266 homers this year, breaking the previous mark of 264 set by the 1997 Mariners.
Gleyber Torres set the mark with his 24th dinger in the fourth, and then Stanton hit No. 266 in the seventh.

Also, with Torres’ home run, the Yankees set another record by recording at least 20 home runs from each spot in the batting order.
“A lot of cool things happened for our team today,’’ Stanton said after the game, reported the New York Post. “Two MLB records and one for the Yankees, [Miguel] Andujar’s double. The team home run record is for all of us.’’
Andujar hit his 45th and 46th doubles of the season in the game, breaking the team’s rookie mark for doubles set by Joe Dimaggio.
The Yankees go for the sweep of the Red Sox on Sunday, but the game that really matters is Wednesday’s AL wild-card matchup with the Oakland Athletics.
If the Yankees win Wednesday’s game, they will be right back here in Fenway to play the Red Sox in the AL Divisional Series. If they lose, their season is over.
