What Happens When Solar Panels Are Put in Other Countries
We’ve frequently been told that increasing green energy in the developing world is going to be crucial to reducing fossil fuel usage and carbon dioxide emissions.
After all, the developing world is using a greater amount of energy than it did in years past, and we all know that fossil fuels are pretty much the devil incarnate. Also, if you’re going to put solar panels anywhere, you could certainly do worse than desert or tropical countries in the developing world, where the sun is strong all year around or uninterrupted by clouds.
Unfortunately, it seems that those actually living in the developing world haven’t gotten the message — or simply don’t care.
A strange video posted on an obscure Facebook page showing individuals — including many in headscarves — smashing solar panel has gone viral, with almost 80,000 shares since it was posted on Saturday.
Here is the YouTube version of it, posted on Tuesday:
So I’m guessing they’re not big proponents of going green. Have they not seen “An Inconvenient Truth?”
There’s no timestamp on the video or location given, although — judging by the dress and the fact that it originated in a group whose name translates to the Arab Solar Energy Forum — one can assume it was somewhere in the Middle East.
The caption on the video translates to “When ignorance is master.”
Surprisingly, judging by the Facebook translation, not everyone agreed — or, at least, sarcasm doesn’t necessarily translate so well from the original Arabic.
“They know what they do, sure they are oppressed,” one user wrote.
“They are idols and statues,” another put in.
Other users thought the display of violence was just as wasteful as it looked.
“These people have no grace,” one wrote.
Well, either way, it’s definitely not a good look for the people involved.
As much as I’m not a huge believer in the transformative power of solar energy in the near future, I’m also a pretty big believer in, well, not busting up existing solar panels — especially if they’re someone else’s property, as is pretty certainly the case here.
The United Nations and global warming alarmists are currently outraged at the United States for pulling out of the Paris Agreement, a document more concerned with the transfer of wealth than the reduction of greenhouse gases. They’ve called the Trump administration’s decision ignorant.
Instead of fighting that sort of “ignorance,” maybe they should start with the kind this video depicts — before money is wasted on advanced technology in places where it stands a high chance of getting destroyed.
Just a theory.
