Share

It wasn’t the first time the young couple had traveled to Mexico. They’d vacationed there before and enjoyed themselves immensely.

This trip wasn’t expected to be anything out of the ordinary for Troy and Lindsay Black of Calgary, Canada.

Married since December 2013, it was going to be just another warm escape during a cold northern winter.

But during the trip, Troy got ill suddenly and the news was not good. Lindsay took to Facebook to let loved ones know and to plead for help.

She wrote, “My best friend and partner in life Troy Black is in grave condition in the hospital in Mexico. These last 24 hours have been such a blur and I’m reaching out for prayers and your love.”

She explained in more detail, “Troy is on life support and I know he will pull through. He has to.”

Then the words of a hurting wife came through. “He is a warrior,” she wrote. “He’s my warrior. I’m sorry if I haven’t reached out personally to everyone I should’ve but please please pray for him.”

Lindsay added that she wanted to take him home and that both of their moms were flying out to be with them. She also promised updates as she had them.

An update did come, but it was not the kind of news anyone hoped for. Troy had been needing blood transfusions and the hospital had just run out. Donors were desperately needed.

Word spread like wildfire and a support page was set up on Facebook that would also function as the hub for comments, questions and updates. News outlets picked up on the story and blood donors stepped up to help.

According to Global News, “Others have offered to pay for flights to get people there to donate. It’s all been overwhelming for those closest to the couple.”

But then came the shocking news. Despite everyone’s best efforts, Troy had tragically passed away.

The response of compassion and concern for the family was overwhelming with people wanting to donate funds and even offering to help with pet care as they dealt with the loss and all that came with it.

As the time drew near for Lindsay to return home, she posted a tribute to her lost love. Her thoughts filled with him, she had a special drink in his honor.

Though many were devastated to hear of the news of his passing, it did not stop them from reaching out to help.

Many have continued to donate blood in Troy’s memory and have pledged to not only do so in coming days, but to be more regular blood donors in the future.
