Wife Rushes To Save Dying Kitten Gasping for Air, Names the Little Fighter 'Rocky'

Share

Meet Rocky the kitten, also known by his adorable moniker, Rocky on Wheels.

After a traumatic start to life, Rocky is now living in a happy cat world.

His human mother, Dawn Firestone, shares her kitty’s story with the world in hopes other people will consider taking in an animal with special needs.

Rocky was abandoned by his birth mom almost immediately after he was born. Dawn’s husband found Rocky with the umbilical cord still attached, scarcely able to breathe.

Dawn began to pour herself into nurturing the orphaned kitten, pleading with the little guy to fight. If he did survive, Dawn told the kitten, she would give him the best possible life she could give.

And Rocky did survive — he had a fighting spirit that refused to quit.

As Rocky began to grow in size and strength, Dawn noticed her little kitten was having other developmental troubles.

When Rocky tried to walk, he supported himself with only his two front legs. His hind legs flopped along behind, unable to bear weight.

Additionally, Rocky was unable to control his bladder. Dawn found herself trying to diaper a cat, all the while raising money for medical tests to find out what was going on with her little guy.

A trip to a neurologist revealed Rocky had nerve damage, and didn’t have feeling in his legs or tail.

But Dawn had a hunch that Rocky felt some sensation in his hind legs, evidenced by his curious response when she gave his legs a squeeze.

Living up to her promise to give Rocky the best possible life, Dawn got a tiny wheelchair for her cat.

When he’s strapped in, Rocky can begin to exercise his hind legs, which Dawn hopes will strengthen over time.

Even without the wheelchair, Rocky manages to scoot around the house like a typical catnip-loving maniac. Dawn loves watching him play, describing Rocky as unstoppable.

While adopting a pet with special medical needs isn’t for everyone, Dawn hopes that Rocky’s story will help others feel less daunted by the idea.

The love and warmth exuded from Dawn’s happy kitty makes all the extra work worth it.
