Stranger Stops Car at Intersection to Care for Homeless Man Standing in Freezing Cold

Share

Apparently, naming winter storms became an official thing back in 2013. And during the winter of 2017-2018, that naming system is getting one heck of a run for its money.

Bands of fiercely frigid weather have been marching across the nation at a fairly brutal pace this year.

The northern states are receiving their fair share — but even the South has experienced several days of deep freeze.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicted generally colder temperatures this season, and so far those predictions have been right on the money. Oddly sweet-sounding storm names like “Benji” and “Inga” have been dumping cold temperatures and accumulating snow across the South since early December.

But even as the storm names themselves continue to change, one man is demonstrating that there’s no substitute for enduring concepts like “kindness” and “compassion.”

He was captured in a short video snippet that’s quickly going viral across social media.

In the video, a clearly moved female motorist begins capturing footage as this man approaches another man at an intersection. Both are on foot — one is homeless, and the other has temporarily exited his vehicle to help.

The man in question, clad only in a blue shirt, is fitting what appears to be his own winter coat around the other man’s shoulders.

Social media posts indicate that this exchange took place in Alabama, where temperatures hovered around freezing during the time video footage was captured.

“That is so sweet,” says a female observer’s voice is a hushed and humbled whisper.

A few seconds later, the homeless man leans in to give his supporter a spontaneous hug.

The man in the blue shirt heartily pats the other man on the back. It’s a hug between equals, showing genuine respect and empathy.

But the man in the blue shirt doesn’t stop there. Still clasping the homeless man on the shoulder companionably, he can be heard saying, “I’m going to go get you some food, and I’ll bring it back.”

Then the man in the blue shirt walks back to his white car parked at the light — presumably to go find a restaurant or convenience store. Meanwhile, the homeless man marvels at his warm new coat.

The storms of life may rage on all around us, and they go by a range of different labels.

But videos like this one show that quiet, unassuming angels on earth are everywhere — and that ultimately, each act of human compassion boils down to one word known as “love.”
