DOJ Adds Obstruction Counts for 2 Former FBI Agents Charged with Allegedly Lying About Hunter Biden Laptop

Two former FBI officials accused of lying to Congress about their knowledge of Hunter Biden’s scandal-drenched laptop computer are now facing obstruction of justice charges.

Former agents Nikki Floris and Bradley Benavides were initially charged with lying to Congress in their testimony to the House Judiciary Committee, the New York Post reported.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said Friday that “Floris and Benavides allegedly lied to Congress about their roles in the FBI’s Hunter Biden investigations, with one claiming they only learned about it from Wikipedia — despite evidence showing their involvement in helping shape the public narrative about Hunter Biden’s laptop right before the election.”

The obstruction allegation was disclosed in an affidavit released by the Department of Justice.

The document said that the lies told by the former agents “influenced the Committee’s investigation significantly, including by thwarting investigative follow-up interviews and subpoenas.”

“For example, had FLORIS answered the Committee’s questions concerning her awareness of discussions relating to Hunter Biden at the FITF truthfully, the Committee would have pursued all relevant information about those communications,” the document said.

“Had BENAVIDES been truthful about his involvement in the Hunter Biden investigations, the Committee would have sought additional documents and testimony in furtherance of its investigation,” the document said. The FITF is the since-disbanded Foreign Influence Task Force that operated during the 2020 election.

The two former agents “knowingly and willfully provided materially false statements to the Committee about their respective awareness of and involvement in the FBI’s investigations into Hunter Biden, and thereby corruptly obstructed, and impeded and endeavored to influence, obstruct, and impede the due proper administration of the law,” the affidavit said.

The affidavit noted that even after being told she could be prosecuted for lying, “FLORIS testified that she had no involvement in the Hunter Biden investigations.”

“In reality, she was in communication with the case team for over a year during which she both sent and received information about Hunter Biden.  FLORIS testified that she knew nothing about the Hunter Biden laptop.  In reality, FLORIS coordinated the FBI’s response to news articles about the laptop in real time,” the document said.

“FLORIS agreed that she had ‘no personal knowledge of Hunter Biden ever being the subject of any discussion at the FITF’ while she was there.  In reality, FLORIS personally participated in conversations about Hunter Biden, including many that were in writing,” the document added.

The document said Benavides “was in communication about the laptop over a period of days” and demonstrated “deeper knowledge” by being able to “confirm details about the FBI’s receipt and exploitation of the laptop.”

“BENAVIDES’s false testimony was intended to influence, obstruct, and impede a proceeding of the United States House of Representatives Committee for the Judiciary,” the affidavit said.
