Adorable Dog Born with Only 2 Hind Legs. Rescuers Say He Needs Wheels Or He'll Be Paralyzed

Share

Tobi is a miniature Australian Shepherd with quite a unique physical feature that sets him apart from other dogs:

He only has two legs.

Having only hind legs has not stopped Tobi from loving life.

The nearly 2-year-old dog has a cheerful disposition and does not live in pain from being two-legged.

Though he’s not in pain, his lack of four legs has affected his life and will continue to do so. It’s what led him to the Humane Society of North Texas.

Fortunately, abuse and neglect are not part of Tobi’s story like so many of the other animals at the rescue organization. Tobi’s owner realized he could not care for the dog any longer given the circumstances of his complex needs, so he surrendered Tobi.

According to KDFW, Cassie Lackey, Community Relations Manager of the Humane Society of North Texas, explained: “I don’t think he knows there’s anything wrong with him. It’s going to be serious as he gets older.”

Would ever adopt a pet with special needs like Tobi?

If you casually met Tobi, you probably would not want to change a single thing about the adorable dog. However, if you had insight into the long-term consequences of his condition, you would understand the severity of only his having only two hind legs as he ages.

The problem involves his vertebrae. His current mode of walking compresses the vertebrae and could even paralyze him.

The solution is to get Tobi wheels, which cost $500 themselves. The process of properly fitting the wheels to Tobi under the care of an orthopedic veterinarian, however, costs between $2,500 to $2,800.

The Humane Society of North Texas asked for donations on Facebook: “Be a part of #TeamTobi and let’s get Tobi his wheels!! When he walks over to you and snuggles himself up in your lap, there is no greater feeling.”

“BUT, we want Tobi to be able to run and play!” it added.

$3,800 has already been raised thanks to generous givers touched by Tobi’s story.

Degenerative disc disease is no match against Tobi now. Tobi will one day be up for adoption, but for now, he needs to adjust to rolling through life with his new wheels.
