Cat Jumps onto Polish Historian's Shoulder Mid-Interview, Owner Remains Unphased

Share

You look over at your cat, who is looking directly back at you. He’s sitting about 10 feet away on the countertop, definitely out of arm’s reach — and he knows it.

His paw is poised against a glass. He looks at you still, measuring every movement you make. An ear twitches. He clearly heard you tell him “no,” and yet there he is, paw against the glass, ready to send it over the edge.

It’s a battle of wills, and no matter how stubborn you are, the cat always wins.

Because that’s just how cats are. Cats don’t care what you think, and they work on their own schedule according to their own preferences.

This draws some people to them, but those who love the affable nature and loyalty of dogs tend to find felines downright nefarious.

That’s probably why “Are you a cat person or a dog person?” is such a common question, right up there with chocolate versus vanilla.

Cat people stick together. They share a love for chaos, cleverness and (hopefully) cleaning litter boxes.

The cat’s I-don’t-care attitude bleeds over into all areas of life. And for people who make professional and public experiences, that often means their furry friends make it onto live TV with them.

There are many different reactions one could have when faced with this sort of predicament.

Take this gentleman, for example. Nils Ušakovs, mayor of Latvia, keeps his cool rather well when the unexpected happens. He seems just as amused by the situation as the thousands of viewers who enjoyed the clip later.

Instead of shooing it away, he watches the big cat stride up to his coffee cup and drink from it before chuckling and startling the cat. Cat lover: confirmed.

This other clip shows someone who reacts to his cat similarly to the way another person reacted to uninvited guests — does anyone remember the viral clip of the man who tried to shoo his kid and baby out of the room before his panicky wife came barreling in to drag them out?

Yep. This is that, but with a cat.

The poor kitty just wanted some affection. It’s rare enough that a cat approaches you of its own volition, so this rejected cat probably gave his owner the stink eye afterward.

But this third and final example takes the cake. He doesn’t acknowledge the cat, and he doesn’t shoo it away. Without skipping a beat, Jerzy Targalski deals with a situation that could have left lesser men reeling.

In fact, not only does he not react negatively, his actions suggest that this kind of thing is perfectly normal and acceptable.

That cat looks pretty happy, too. He launches himself up Targalski’s arm and stands on his shoulders, purring, rubbing, and licking an ear while Targalski continues on the serious political topic he’s being interviewed about.

The most Targalski does to mitigate the distraction is to gently brush the ginger’s tail out of the way so he can continue eye contact with his interviewer.

As if that’s not enough proof, another cat waltzes in the open door of his office during the first ten seconds of the clip. Targalski is definitely a cat lover.
