Abused Dog with Mouth Taped Shut Defies the Odds and Lands Incredible New Gig with Police Force
He was a dog that almost died on the streets with his mouth taped shut. Now, he’s a deputy with a Florida sheriff’s office.
Chance is a Florida cur who was found out on the street in terrible shape back in February. According to a Facebook post by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, he was originally discovered in Lehigh Acres after a call from a concerned citizen.
“The post stated that the dog was seen with his mouth taped shut with red electrical tape,” the sheriff’s office said. “The dog was panting, drooling, and reportedly suffocating. He was also dehydrated, appeared malnourished, and bleeding from wounds on his left arm and chest.
“The dog has been seen by a veterinarian and is resting comfortably at Lee County Domestic Animal Services.”
Despite the fact that he almost died out on the streets, Chance had a new lease on life. Not only that, the dog had a new job, too.
According to WTVT-TV in Tampa, the Lee County sheriff decided to adopt Chance and make him an official spokesdog for the department. And not only that, he’s been deputized.
“Sheriff Carmine Marceno has adopted and deputized ‘Chance,’ a dog recently discovered abused and abandoned in the Lehigh Acres area,” a representative from the sheriff’s office said.
“Deputy Chance will have an office near Sheriff Marceno’s desk.”
And just a few weeks after he was found left for dead on the streets, he was taking on his first assignment.
“Having been deputized last Thursday, eager to get his paws dirty, Deputy Chance sprang into action this weekend,” the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
“Beginning with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the all-new Spinz Roller Skating Center on Andrea Lane in Fort Myers, Deputy Chance accompanied Sheriff Carmine Marceno and spent the early part of Saturday greeting friends in attendance.”
And of course, there were dad jokes to be had, too: “When asked to describe his first day on duty, Deputy Chance stated, ‘ruff.'”
We’re always happy to support police here, and we’re doubly happy to do it when it’s law enforcement officers of the four-legged variety. However, when it’s a dog with Chance’s backstory, well, we couldn’t be more thrilled.
The only thing that could make this more perfect is if the degenerate who did this to Chance was brought to justice for what he or she did.
That being said, the dog looks to be on his way to a great life — and a career — with Sheriff Marceno and the entire Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
