Ex-Times Editor Keeps Sickening Item in Her Purse That Is a Constant Reminder of Biased Media

In three years as editor of the nation’s most influential newspaper, former New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson repeatedly denied her staff harbored a liberal bias in its coverage of the nation’s news.
But in an opinion column this week in the U.K. Guardian, Abramson revealed not only how liberal she really is, but just how much it’s a part of her daily life.
She keeps a plastic doll of Barack Obama in her purse.
“I pull him out every now and then to remind myself that the United States had a progressive, African American president until very recently,” Abramson wrote at the tail end of a column about what she hopes will be a bright outlook for Democrats in November’s midterm elections.
“Some people find this strange, but you have to take comfort where you can find it in Donald Trump’s America.”
Well, she’s certainly right about how some people might find it a little strange. How many other people do you know who carry a figurine of a politician around so they can finger it in moments of lonely despair?
(None would be a good bet.)
But there might be more to this story than the clearly deranged habits of one former newspaperwoman.
Abramson wasn’t just a veteran opinion columnist for The Times who became its first female executive editor. She was also at the top of the news organization from 2011 to 2014 — a time that covered half of Obama’s first term, the 2012 re-election campaign and the first half of his second term.
Even Americans who only dimly pay attention to politics are aware that the American media tilts toward Democrats, but how many could have imagined that the woman in charge of arguably the most powerful news institution in the country was so besotted with the country’s president that she would eventually start carrying around a tiny figurine of his saintly image?
It’s beyond weird. But is it any surprise that The Times treated the object of Abramson’s crush with such tender care? (Four Americans died in Benghazi while Abramson’s heartthrob was boogying at a fundraiser in Las Vegas, remember. Is it any wonder The Times has never treated that story with the importance it’s due?)
Abramson is also one of the news media’s fiercest critics of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, writing a lengthy piece only last month in New York Magazine arguing that after more than a quarter-century on the court, Thomas should be considered for impeachment on the grounds of accusations of sexual harassment brought against him in 1991.
Yet this is the same woman who assured interviewers time and again that The Times is not a “liberal rag.”
When she was unceremoniously fired from The Times in 2014, the Media Research Center published a package of quotes from Abramson shrugging off accusations of bias against the Gray Lady. It’s amusing reading, especially if you wonder if she was clutching her Obama talisman while she mouthed the words.
One of the benefits of being a conservative is just how often later events prove how accurate the conservative worldview actually is.
For American conservatives, the fact that the mainstream media, but especially The New York Times, act as de facto mouthpieces of the Democrat party is an article of faith.
When revelations like the one Abramson supplied of her own accord in the Guardian come out, they’re less a surprise than a confirmation of what was clear as day all along.
So the former top editor of The New York Times is such an Obama fangirl that she carries a figurine of the ex-president in her purse to remind herself of happier days.
That’s strange. It might even be bizarre. But it’s hardly a surprise.
It just leaves one question out there:
