Man Can't Take It Anymore, Leaves Home over What Leftists Have Done to City

Share

A casual glance at most major urban centers across the country reveals that the vast majority are run by Democrats and currently face a slew of problems brought about by Democrat-imposed policies.

The city of Seattle, Washington, is one of those Democrat-run urban centers. Unfortunately, the leftists who have imposed their progressive agenda on the beautiful city have run it into the ground so much that a once-proud resident is now pulling up stakes and moving elsewhere after 14 years.

That revelation came in the form of an opinion column published in The Seattle Times by a man named Alex Berezow — a University of Washington graduate with a Ph.D. in microbiology who is currently a senior fellow at the American Council on Science and Health.

Berezow declared right off the bat that Seattle has become “hostile to the middle class” and proceeded to recount how his love for the once-glorious city had faded and died in recent years.

He shared how in 2017, he met with the city council member he had gladly voted for — Debora Juarez — to discuss some of his concerns about the deterioration of the city, such as increased litter and graffiti, only to have those concerns rebuffed.

He then moved to the topic of rampant homelessness in the city, which is bad for both residents and the homeless individuals who reside in atrociously filthy and crime-ridden camps. However, he was compared to a Nazi when he suggested the city do something to improve the plight of the homeless, such as provide the necessary treatments for their mental- or drug-related problems, even involuntarily if necessary.

Berezow proceeded to lament how “toxic” the political environment has become on both sides. He recounted a number of “angry” statements from local progressive politicians that left him dismayed and forced him to realize that the “anti-Trump” left had no moral high ground over those on the right they routinely criticized.

Placing the toxic politics aside, he then moved on to more tangible complaints about the current state of the city of Seattle. As examples, he cited the absurdly high cost of home ownership and dearth of affordable housing — California faces a similar housing crisis — that have been brought about by a combination of high demand mixed with restrictive government policies.

These policies implemented artificial caps on the housing market and kept home prices inflated above what middle-class residents could afford.

Do you agree that leftists are ruining major Democrat-run cities?

He also criticized the recently imposed $15 per hour minimum wage — which hasn’t even fully taken effect yet — that has already resulted in low-wage workers ironically losing money by having their hours cut. At the same time, businesses and customers have been forced to absorb higher costs in other areas to offset the increased cost of labor.

“But stubborn facts and a hurting middle class don’t seem to faze the City Council, which seems far more concerned about issues over which it has zero control — such as climate change and foreign policy — than it does about issues over which it has at least a modicum of control, such as the cost of living, homelessness, crime, traffic and potholes,” Berezow wrote.

“For our City Council, virtue signaling is more important than governing,” he added pointedly.

Thus, despite the fact that both he and his wife prefer to remain in Seattle, they nevertheless felt compelled to move south to the city of Eastside, a suburb of Tacoma, in order to escape the increasingly dystopian hellhole Seattle has become.

“But if safe streets, clean sidewalks, an affordable place to live and polite discourse is asking too much, we’ll gladly seek refuge in a city where quality of life and civility still matter,” he concluded.

Rest assured, this is no right-wing conservative troll speaking ill of a city he doesn’t even know. This is an incredibly intelligent member of the liberal-dominated academia who has lived in Seattle for more than a decade and is probably not a big fan of President Trump or Republicans in general.

The fact that this man has become so fed up with the leftist-run city he loves that he feels compelled to move elsewhere should serve as a stark warning to the progressives running Seattle into the ground.

Alas, it’s highly unlikely they listen to what he has to say.
