Photo of Young Boys Watching Raising of American Flag Goes Viral, Gives Hope for America's Future

Share

It would be hard to blame even the most optimistic of people for being gravely concerned about America’s future.

For one, patriotism has greatly deteriorated.

If it’s not professional athletes refusing to stand for the national anthem, it’s antifa vandalizing the American flag and asking, “What is there to be proud of?” And of course, there are Hollywood elitists who seem almost ashamed of their country.

It’s particularly disconcerting given the way the media and entertainment industry bombard America’s young people with anti-American propaganda at virtually every turn.

It’s nonsense like this that makes it so important for parents to play an intentional role in the upbringing of their children, ensuring that the values they hold are passed on to the next generation.

Fortunately, there’s hope!

Yes, this viral photo shows just two children in a neighborhood riding scooters — but the fact that the photo exists at all is a true glimmer of hope.

As reported on by the Charlotte Observer, these two unnamed North Carolina boys garnered national attention and nearly 6,000 shares as of publication for the respect and pride they showed as the American flag was raised.

Just as importantly, the two children did so completely unprompted. They’ve simply been raised to show proper respect for the flag.

“This afternoon as Chaplain (Bobby) Herring was raising the U.S. flag to full staff, he looked over to the intersection and saw these two young people standing there with hands on their heart, saying the Pledge of Allegiance,” the post by the Roseboro Fire Department reads.

According to the Observer, Roseboro is a small town of about 1,200 people and is 65 miles south of Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Roseboro Fire Department was justifiably proud of their town.

“God bless our community,” the Roseboro Fire Department said in the accompanying Facebook post.

The Observer reported that the RFD was able to identify the two boys as cousins — Derrick Tyrone Ingram Jr. and Thomas Edwards Jones Jr.

The comments that flooded the viral Facebook post were brimming with praise and hopefulness.

Virtually all of the over 500 (and growing) comments on the photo echo similar sentiments.

So yes, there’s still a lot of work to be done in this country.

But hope is a powerful tool. If kids are raised right and taught to respect this wonderful country, perhaps the future won’t be as gloomy as some predict.
