West Hollywood Wants Trump's Star Removed Over 'Treatment of Women,' Yet Allowed Bill Cosby's To Remain

Share

In 2015, according to The Hollywood Reporter, “there were widespread calls for the removal of Bill Cosby’s star from the Walk of Fame amid multiple sexual assault claims leveled against the comedian.” What happened at the time? Not a whole lot.

The president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, responsible for administering the Walk of Fame, told THR that “the chamber did not remove stars over public backlash and cited historical landmark status.” There weren’t any locales calling for the star to be removed in any official way. Nothing, in other words, happened.

Fast forward to 2018, where Donald Trump’s star on the Walk of Fame has become a target of anti-conservative protests. It’s been demolished twice. Brawls have broken out at the scene. Liberals have been guarding it dressed as Russian soldiers.

All of this is because of Donald Trump’s political opinions, mind you, but this is apparently worse than what Bill Cosby did — at least to members of the West Hollywood City Council.

On Monday, the City Council passed a resolution that urged the Los Angeles City Council and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to remove Trump’s star, the first move to permanently erase the president from the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“The City Council will consider adopting a resolution urging the Los Angeles City Council and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to remove President Donald J. Trump’s star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame, due to his disturbing treatment of women and other actions that do not meet the shared values of the City of West Hollywood, the region, state, and country,” the agenda item read.

It passed unanimously.

Do you think Donald Trump's Hollywood star should be removed?

“The staff report for the resolution lists numerous reasons for the matter, including the separation of children from their parents at the border, the denial of the impacts from climate change on the world, Trump’s treatment of transgendered individuals and the denial of findings from the intelligence community of Russian interference in the 2016 election, among others,” THR reported.

Curiously, the West Hollywood City Council didn’t do a whole heck of a lot back during the Cosby scandal. Then again, it might not particularly matter, given the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s reaction back in 2015.

“The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a registered historic landmark,” Hollywood Chamber of Commerce CEO Leron Gubler said during the Cosby scandal.

“Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Because of this, we have never removed a star from the Walk.”

We’ll certainly see how true that is in the coming weeks.

So, what will the practical effect of all this be? Well, at least one prominent conservative had a relatively snide take:

It’s not as if those who destroyed Trump’s star woke up the next morning in a republic where Donald Trump wasn’t president. And it’s worth noting that Trump’s star — along with the rest of the Hollywood Walk of Fame — isn’t even in West Hollywood; the neighborhood is close by the landmark, but as the landmark’s name indicates, it’s actually in the neighborhood of Hollywood, which is part of Los Angeles.

That all being said, there’s an important precedent here. The only reason that this is even being considered is that the star itself has been criminally destroyed twice and has become a West Coast epicenter for some of the more outré nonsense associated with #TheResistance.

For all of that wonderfully Californian talk about climate change, illegal immigration, transgender rights and the like, nobody would actually be considering this if liberal vandals hadn’t routinely committed illegal acts with the intention of effacing Donald Trump from the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

And now they’ve won, in a sense, since an actual municipality has ostensibly listened to the agenda of the ruffians. That won’t stop anything, mind you. It’ll merely embolden the mob.

If Trump’s star is actually removed, I’m not sure who the rabblement will come for next. I do know this: It won’t be Bill Cosby.
