Kamala Harris Visibly Furious After Trump Goes After Illegal Immigration: 'America Is Committed'

Share

Securing the USA’s southern border from crime, drugs, human trafficking and illegal immigration is a top priority for President Donald Trump.

Sadly, he has been staunchly opposed in that effort by the overtly partisan Democratic Party, even by many who have supported the same effort in years past.

During his State of the Union address Tuesday night, Trump spent some time discussing the dismal security status of the porous southern border and reiterated his pledge to secure that border one way or another.

His vow to secure the southern border was not met with approval from the partisan Democrats, chief among them California Sen. Kamala Harris. Instead, she was caught on camera grimacing and visibly shaking her head as the president spoke of doing so.

The senator’s snide display came as the president referenced the necessity of both parties and both chambers of Congress to come together in a bipartisan fashion for the greater good of the nation.

“Now, Republicans and Democrats must join forces again to confront an urgent national crisis. Congress has 10 days left to pass a bill that will fund our government, protect our homeland, and secure our very dangerous southern border,” Trump said.

“Now is the time for Congress to show the world that America is committed to ending illegal immigration and putting the ruthless coyotes, cartels, drug dealers, and human traffickers out of business,” he added.

As most of the audience cheered — well, at least the Republican side and handful of common-sense moderate Democrats — Harris, who is in the running to challenge Trump for the presidency in 2020, chose that moment to shake her head and sneer in disgust.

Odds are, she wasn’t the only Democrat to openly, or perhaps even unwittingly, signal disapproval of Trump’s call for bipartisan cooperation on the border security issue.

That moment wasn’t the only instance in the State of the Union where Trump spoke of unity and bipartisanship and was met with partisan frowns by the opposition party, but on a positive note, there were also several moments when the president succeeded in bringing all members of Congress to their feet with a message or statement that was undeniable even to his critics and haters.
