'Storage Wars' Star Barry Weiss Reportedly in ICU After Motorcycle Accident

Share

Everyone loves getting a deal, and reality television has flourished thanks to this oh-so-human desire. “Antiques Roadshow,” “Pawn Stars,” “American Pickers” — the list goes on and on.

One of the more successful shows in this vein is “Storage Wars.” In it, professional buyers bid for the contents of overdue storage units, trying to turn a profit (and sometimes failing miserably).

A recurring character during the program’s first four seasons was Barry Weiss, a flamboyant former produce-company owner with a penchant for outlandish outfits and classic cars. Sadly, recent reports indicate that he won’t be behind the wheel of a vehicle anytime soon.

According to TMZ, Weiss and a friend named Jamie were reportedly riding motorcycles together on April 24. While they cruised along, the worst happened.

A car suddenly backed up right into their path. Apparently, the driver didn’t bother to look in the rearview mirror first.

The men crashed right into the vehicle and the impact landed both of them in the hospital.

People reported that Weiss’ friend posted on social media following the accident.

“Not a good day at the office,” he wrote. “A serious crash today with my friend Barry Weiss when a car pulled out directly in front of us and took our road away.

“I got lucky, only a broken knee, elbow, and wrist. Barry is much worse and has serious chest and leg trauma.”

He also posted a photo of his injured leg on Instagram. “Stopping a motorcycle with your knee and an SUV is not recommended,” he added.

According to the Daily Mail, police confirmed the pair’s story. They said, “a car pulled out from a parking space, apparently without looking, and Barry and his friend slammed into the back of the car.”

They also added that neither drugs nor alcohol factored into the accident. Fortunately, Weiss looks as though he’s going to make it.

He’s reportedly in the ICU at a local hospital in stable condition.

A&E, the network of “Storage Wars,” called Weiss “the eccentric ‘Collector’ America fell in love with on A&E’s hit series ‘Storage Wars.’ Since the age of 15, Barry has made a name for himself as an antique collector, a passion that continues to this day.

“Barry is a larger-than-life character with a story for every situation, and his colorful personality brings out the best and the worst of the people around him. His wealth of knowledge extends from classic cars to war relics, and everything in between.

“Barry is always looking for an out-of-the-box approach to get his next score and he lacks no shame in his outlandish tactics.” In addition to “Storage Wars,” he also appeared on the spin-offs “Barry’d Treasure” and “Storage Wars: Barry Strikes Back.”

Here’s to hoping for a quick recovery, Barry. We can’t wait to see you start wheeling and dealing again soon.
