Colorblind Teacher Puts on Glasses in Front of Students and Sees Color for 1st Time
The technology we have available to us today is truly astounding. We have the ability to see places we’d never visit through the use of Google Maps.
With a few swipes, we can connect with family members across the world using FaceTime or Skype or Google Hangouts.
No longer do we need to carry bulky cameras when the latest smartphones and apps allow us to create eye-catching, professional-looking photos.
And, for those who are colorblind, the invention of EnChroma glasses has opened the gateway for many to see true color for the first time.
“Part optics, part neuroscience, EnChroma glasses unlock a new world of color for people with color blindness,” the EnChroma website claims.
But, do they really work? The viral videos exploding across the internet say they do. The glasses can be a bit pricey, but the response they’re receiving from colorblind folks says it all.
These glasses work. Just ask colorblind teacher Mr. Romps of Garrison Elementary School in Dover, New Hampshire. A student favorite, Mr. Romps was presented with a very special gift in November 2017.
The entire surprise was caught on video. Thanks to second-grader William Duffel and his mom, enough money was raised to give Mr. Romps something he never expected.
The teacher offers a free boot camp for all students two times each year. It was during the boot camp in November when his students decided to give him his big surprise.
“From all your boot camp kids and families,” a note on the package read, “thanks for another awesome season of boot camp.”
The obviously fun-loving teacher then begins to guess what might be in the box. “Is it a truck?” he asks.
The kids respond with a resounding, “No!” Watch as Mr. Romps finally dons his new pair of specs. I can’t decide whose reaction is better — his or the kids’?
“This is amazing!” he says as he looks up at a bouquet of vibrant balloons. “Thank you all very, very much!”
When everyone gathers in for a giant group hug, you can’t help but get the warm fuzzies. What a wonderful way to show appreciation for a clearly beloved teacher.
