Packers WR arrested after sick airport joke
There are some topics you just don’t joke about, and a Green Bay Packers wide receiver has learned the hard way what one of them is.
Packers receiver Trevor Davis was arrested Sunday morning for joking about smuggling a bomb into Los Angeles International Airport, TMZ Sports reported.
Davis was checking in for a flight on Hawaiian Airlines with a female companion when the airline attendant asked the typical security questions about his luggage.
According to TMZ, which cited law enforcement sources, Davis turned to his companion and said, “Did you remember to pack the explosives?”
His friend apparently wanted no part of his “joke” and immediately shook her head, indicating that he should stop.
Realizing his joke was not at all funny, Davis reportedly said he was “just kidding.”
But airlines have zero tolerance for such “jokes,” and authorities were immediately called to the scene.
Police took Davis into custody and booked him for misdemeanor criminal threats.
TMZ’s report was later confirmed by NFL.com, with some additional details. Davis was released from jail after posting the $15,000 bond, and the woman with him was not arrested.
Davis has a preliminary court scheduled for May 3.
The team later issued a statement on the arrest.
“The Packers are aware of the matter involving Trevor Davis,” the Packers said. “We are in the process of gathering more information and will refrain from making any further comment as it is an ongoing legal matter.”

Davis, 24, is heading into his third year in the pros. He was drafted by the Packers in the fifth round of the 2016 draft out of the University of California-Berkeley.
He saw most of his action last season on punt and kick returns. Davis had 707 kick return yards in 2017, good for fourth in the league. He also had 289 punt return yards, which was sixth in the NFL.
Davis was named the NFL’s Special Teams Player of the Week following a Week 14 win over the Cleveland Browns in which he returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown.
As a receiver, he had only five catches for 70 yards last season.
