An armed community member shot and killed a school shooter at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, on October 16. The shooter, a 16-year-old, killed three children aged 5, 8, and 11, and a 54-year-old teacher, while two others were critically wounded. Police arrived within three minutes but confirmed that the shooter was stopped by Kaylub Giamanco, a father of two children at the school, who chased and engaged the shooter. The motive and how the shooter obtained the firearm remain unclear.
