Trans Suspect Charged with Murdering Own Parents Had to Be Dragged Before Judge in Underwear as He Fought 4 Officers

An Oregon man who proclaimed himself gender-neutral and had to be carried into his arraignment with his pants around his ankles has been charged with murdering his parents.

Pipo Nguyen-Duy, 64, an Oberlin College professor, and his wife, Thi Tran Phong, 56, were found shot to death Wednesday in their Ohio home, according to the Daily Mail.

Police initially identified the man suspected in the killings as Daniel Jones, of Ashland, Oregon. At his arraignment Thursday, Jones demanded the use of gender-neutral pronouns and said his name is now Asia Nguyen-Duy.

He faces six counts of murder, four counts of felonious assault, and one count of tampering with evidence.

The suspect’s brother, Quentin Nguyen-Duy, 28, is an actor who has appeared on TV shows such as “Law and Order: SVU” and “The Rookie,” and is currently appearing on Broadway.

Asia Nguyen-Duy’s arraignment began with officers carrying him into the courtroom in handcuffs and ankle restraints, but with his pants around his ankles, according to NBC News.

During the arraignment, it was revealed that when police responded to a call about a disheveled person, they found Asia Nguyen-Duy, who sent police to his family’s home after saying he had killed his parents.

“That same morning, the defendant knocked on the door of an Oberlin resident on Shipherd Circle and asked her to record a video to post on the internet. He told her that he did not want the police involved,” Prosecutor Zachary Simonoff said.

“In the video he identifies himself as Asia Nguyen-Duy, says he’s escaping a cult and also says, ‘Everything I did was on my own accord, and I take full responsibility,'” he said.

According to the Daily Mail, a car belonging to the suspect was found with boarded-up windows, a wood stove in the backseat, and a makeshift chimney poking through the roof.

The gun used in the crime has not been recovered.

Greg Porson, a neighbor of the victims, said the suspect asked for a ride to the library to “escape this cult.”

“I said: ‘You know, I never get into anything like that, so I’m out of here,’” Porson said.

Court records show the suspect legally changed his name in 2025, according to WOIO-TV.

The suspect was held on a $3 million bond.
