Shooting Breaks Out During Portland Riot as Unrest Nears New Milestone
A shooting occurred and multiple people were arrested early Wednesday morning during a mass gathering after nearly four months of unrest in Portland.
A scuffle broke out between two protesters, and one drew a firearm and shot the other, according to a news release from the Portland Police Bureau.
The pair sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
Roughly 75 protesters gathered near a public park and blocked traffic, despite orders given over a loudspeaker from law enforcement to stay off private property and walkways.
Three people were apprehended for interfering with a police officer, resisting arrest, trespassing and disorderly conduct, according to the release.
A “commercial-grade firework” was ignited and tossed at law enforcement from inside the mob, landing near several police cruisers.
