Trump impersonator heckles golfer at US Open, gets thrown out of hospitality tent

With lots of high scores and long faces at the U.S. Open, all it took was a Donald Trump impersonator to provide some levity to the golf course.

According to USA Today, the man’s name is Tommy Mundy and he lives in Long Island so the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club is practically his back yard.

He met with several golfers before the tournament began, including the 2010 U.S. Open winner, Graeme McDowell.

“It’s a tremendous day here, Graeme McDowell, a major winner. … We are going to tell our people from across the pond, the United States of America, that we will make America great again. He’s going to protect Ireland, England and our people all against the Russian wave.”

During Round 2 on Friday, the Trump impersonator greeted golfer Andrew “Beef” Johnston from a raised patio.

“We are going to franchise Arby’s like never before,” Mundy shouted at Johnston, who got his nickname of “Beef” due to his stocky physique.

“You’re a tremendous player, young man. Beef, show them how to putt. You are tremendous.”

Do you think the Trump impersonator should have been thrown out of the Champions Pavilion hospitality tent?

While many golfers and those in the gallery found Mundy to be amusing, the hospitality manager of the Champions Pavilion did not.

The manager approached Mundy while he was still serenading the golfers and said, “Get out of here.”

“Out. Out. You too,’’ she said, while looking at Mundy’s sidekick, who was dressed as a Secret Service agent. The two of them then left the hospitality tent without incident.

The Trump impersonator didn’t do much to help out the golfers once they started playing: McDowell missed the cut and Johnston finished the third round in last place out of everyone who made the cut.

Trump showing up at the U.S. Open is nothing new, though last year it was the actual version of the president who showed up at the U.S. Women’s Open.

The event took place at one of Trump’s courses, the Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey. This same course will also host the Men’s PGA Championship in 2022.
