Watch: Red Sox Manager Alex Cora Takes Shot at Yankees During Victory Parade

Share

Get ready to see lots of “Suck on it” signs during Red Sox-Yankees games next season.

That was the phrase Boston manager Alex Cora directed toward the Red Sox’s archrival during their World Series celebration Wednesday.

Cora was talking about people doubting the Red Sox during the course of the postseason, particularly when they dropped Game 2 of the AL Division Series at home to the Yankees.

Boston rebounded to win the next two games of that series to finish off New York. The Red Sox then knocked off the defending World Series champion Houston Astros in five games and disposed of the Los Angeles Dodgers in five as well to win their fourth World Series in 15 years.

“Think about it — the New York Yankees, yeah, the sky was falling. We lost Game 2 and it was panic in here,” Cora said to the crowd. “Everybody was like, ‘Whoa. It’s over.’

“We score 16 at Yankee Stadium. Suck on it.”

Cora also talked about winning in Houston and Los Angeles on the way to the championship, but he didn’t take any shots at those teams like he did with New York.

Did Alex Cora cross the line with his shot at the Yankees?

“It was an amazing run, it was an amazing year, and you guys made it that special,” Cora said to the crowd.

If he has a reason to be petty right after winning the World Series, it likely stems from what the Yankees’ best player did after that Game 2 victory in Boston.

Aaron Judge, who blasted a 445-foot home run in the game, was caught on camera blasting Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” while exiting Fenway Park.

As we saw with Cora during the parade, and as we saw with the Sox after defeating the Astros, trolling opponents is now something we should expect from the Red Sox.

But that also means they should be prepared for when it comes back in their face, and “Suck on it” is sure to do that next season.

The teams will play 19 times in the regular season next year, so there is a very good chance the Red Sox are going to be on the receiving end of a “Suck on it” chant.
