Watch: Johnny Manziel puts on a show in front of 32 NFL scouts

Share

In his quest to get back to the NFL, Johnny Manziel had another impressive outing in front of NFL scouts Tuesday.

At a pro day at Manziel’s alma mater, Texas A&M, scouts from all 32 NFL teams were on hand and got a look at the new and improved Johnny Football.

Pro days are showcases for college players and former college players looking to make the NFL. They are hosted on campus by colleges, like Texas A&M, and like the University of San Diego, where Manziel performed last week.

Manziel made some pretty impressive throws in his warm-up Tuesday, hitting the crossbar two out of three times.

The former Heisman Trophy winner showed he still has a pretty live arm more than two years after playing his last pro football game for the Cleveland Browns in December 2015.

Manziel, who was the 22nd pick in the 2014 NFL draft, also showed that he can throw the long ball.

Manziel revealed in February that he suffers from bipolar disorder, which he used to self-medicate with alcohol. His struggles with alcohol helped derail his NFL career after two seasons with the Browns.

But now Manziel — who has stopped drinking and is being treated for his condition — continues on his quest to play pro football again.

“I feel pretty good,” said Manziel after the Tuesday pro day. “I’m continuing to get stronger and get better.”

“I’m ready to go. I haven’t felt this good in a long, long time,” Manziel added.

When asked about his future, Manziel made clear that his first goal is to land with an NFL team.

“If not, and I don’t get the opportunity to go back, I’m going to play in the CFL,” he told Canada’s TSN.

The CFL’s Hamilton Tiger Cats hold the rights to sign Manziel. They offered him a contract, but Manziel did not sign with them by the Jan. 31 deadline.

However, the Tiger Cats hold the right to sign him for another year so it’s likely that if his NFL dreams don’t pan out, the Cats will ink Manziel to a deal for next season.
