CNN Claims Ted Cruz Afraid to Interview, Hides Interview He Actually Gave

Share

CNN gets awfully offended when anyone uses the term “fake news” to refer to its coverage. And while it’s often used for effect, particularly by President Donald Trump, it’s not necessarily unearned.

Take, for instance, the network’s interview with GOP Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas after the Parkland school shooting. According to Breitbart, the senator spoke to the network for 15 minutes on Thursday about public policy measures that could be taken in the wake of the shooting to prevent it from happening again.

After the interview, CNN’s Chris Cuomo went online to taunt and goad the senator, implying he wasn’t willing to talk to the network about an answer to how to stop shootings.

“If Cruz thinks gun control improvement is not the answer, what is?” Cuomo tweeted. “Answer the question, Senator: what are we going to do to stop school shootings? Don’t just say what won’t work, work to find an answer!:”

Cuomo linked to an article from The Hill in which he called out GOP senators who were unwilling to go on the record with him or the network about the shooting. Cruz was one of the senators Cuomo named.

Here was the thing, though: Cruz did gone on the record, as previously stated. CNN just declined to air it.

Cruz was perfectly happy to air his grievances in return:

“That’s funny, I spoke to CNN for 15 mins yesterday about proactive solutions to prevent gun violence (like passing the Grassley-Cruz bill—which Dems filibustered—that would add $300 million for school safety) yet CNN has aired NONE of it,:” Cruz responded “Why not air the (entire) interview?”

He also posted a picture of the interview he gave.

Do you think CNN is fake news?
The Grassley-Cruz bill, introduced in 2013, would have increased resources to prosecute those who commit gun crimes and also established a task force to prosecute those who fail background checks, according to The Hill.

So, in other words, Cruz was more than happy to interview with the network, CNN just couldn’t find time to put it on the air, apparently. (The network ran part of the interview during Friday’s “The Situation Room,” according to The Washington Examiner.)

Remember this the next time CNN gripes about Republicans being afraid to talk about solutions.
