Two Convicts Escape Courtroom, Judge Tosses Robe, Takes 'Law Into His Own Hands'

Share

Two inmates are being slapped with additional charges and a hefty dose of public humiliation after an escape attempt from the Washington state courtroom of Judge R.W. Buzzard.

Tanner Jacobson and Kodey Howard, the duo behind the escape, are now behind bars again after the judge himself leaped into action.

Both men have been charged with second-degree escape, reports the News Tribune.

The courtroom escape was caught on video.

It becomes apparent pretty early that this escape plan was doomed to fail.

Both men, handcuffed and wearing what appear to be prison jumpsuits, make a quick break for it. Before they even clear the courtroom, the judge spots them.

He ditches his robe, and starts running after them. This is when things for Jacobson and Howard go from bad to worse.

Do you think Judge Buzzard is a hero?

Howard, the man in the solid green jumpsuit, lost both of his shoes before entering the stairwell.

Things quickly spiral out of control for him. Shoeless, he is unable to leap down the stairs like his fellow inmate. Behind him, the judge is hot on his trail, closing an already uncomfortable small gap between the two.

Finally, Howard sees light from an open exit door at the bottom of the stairs. Running towards it, freedom was just feet away from him.

At least it seemed that way until Judge Buzzard slammed into him like a freight train.

Jacobson fared no better.

With his county green-and-white striped jumpsuit and shiny handcuffs, he stuck out like a sore thumb. Although he was quicker than Howard, his evasion attempts were in vain.

Officers caught him a few blocks away.

With an escape attempt as lame as that, it’s a wonder the inmates got as far as they did. It’s unlikely bailiffs will let them have another unguarded moment in the courthouse.

Jacobson and Howard are now being charged with second degree escape.
