Alert: Leftists Planning Anti-Trump Rallies in over 900 Cities Tonight

Share

The American left really doesn’t like American democracy.

Not two days after midterm elections gave Democrats control of the House of Representatives in the upcoming 116th Congress, while keeping Republicans in charge of the Senate, progressives are planning national rallies Thursday to keep the country roiling.

Now the pretense is fears for the special counsel investigation into the liberal bugaboo of “Russian collusion.”

A group calling itself “Nobody Is Above the Law” is calling for demonstrations in more than 900 cities around the country, in Canada and even in Europe to denounce acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker’s role overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe.

Whitaker, who is taking over as acting attorney general after President Donald Trump forced the resignation of former Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Wednesday, will be in charge of the probe now.

Sessions had recused himself from any matters related to the Russia investigation, which left Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein with overall responsibility for Mueller’s actions.

Whitaker hasn’t recused himself, but has made it very clear that he thinks the probe is too wide-ranging.

In a commentary originally published by CNN in August 2017, Whitaker went on record criticizing the limitless scope of the Mueller investigation, arguing that Rothstein needed to rein it in or risk having it devolve into “a political fishing expedition.”

“This would not only be out of character for a respected figure like Mueller, but also could be damaging to the President of the United States and his family — and by extension, to the country,” Whitaker wrote.

Are leftists aiming to overturn the whole American process?

To normal people, that might sound perfectly reasonable. To the left in 2018, even after a win at the ballot box as recently as Tuesday, it’s a reason to take to the streets in fury.

House Minority Leader (and likely Speaker-to-Be) Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday called Sessions firing and Whitaker’s stepping in a “blatant attempt” to undermine the Mueller probe.

Her liberal storm troopers are taking direct action.

“Whitaker has publicly outlined strategies to stifle the investigation and cannot be allowed to remain in charge of it,” the Nobody Is Above the Law website states. “The Nobody Is Above the Law network demands that Whitaker immediately commit not to assume supervision of the investigation. Our hundreds of response events are being launched to demonstrate the public demand for action to correct this injustice.”

It’s an “injustice” already that Rosenstein is no longer in charge of an investigation he probably should never have been in charge of in the first place?

This is a guy, after all, who reportedly plotted to “wear a wire” for discussions with the president of the United States and talked about using the 25th Amendment to get rid of Trump before his administration even got started.

(Granted, that report was from The New York Times, so it deserves the usual skepticism, but Rosenstein’s denials weren’t entirely convincing.)

All of that is so much white noise to the anti-Trump crowd, though.

In an overwrought Twitter post, uber-anti-Trumper Rachel Maddow of MSNBC called the demonstrations planned for Thursday a “Break Glass in Case of Emergency plan to protect the Mueller investigation.”

But that’s not what it really is. What it is is an attempt by the left to keep its anti-Trump activists at the frenzy they were leading up to the midterm elections.

Winning the House, in the manner prescribed by the Constitution, isn’t good enough for progressives. Trump’s upset victory in 2016 deprived them of the presidential power they thought would be in their hands for all time to come – and they want it back, now.

It remains to be seen whether all the demonstrations that are planned actually come together. But even the prospect of national protests so soon after an election that would at least partially satisfied a responsible political movement tells American conservatives all they need to know about the American left today.

It cares nothing for American democracy.
