Anti-Trump GOP PAC Investigated. Funded by 3 Liberal Billionaires.

Share

It goes without saying that President Donald Trump faces staunch opposition from the Democratic Party and liberal-aligned media, but, perhaps surprisingly, the president still faces obstinate opposition from his own side in the form of the small but vocal subset on the right who continue to identify as NeverTrump Republicans.

Some of those NeverTrumpers have organized themselves into political action committee to better focus their opposition, and one of the more prominent groups of such is a D.C.-based nonprofit known as Republican Women for Progress.

That group is run by two women formerly affiliated with other Republican organizations — Jennifer Lim and Meghan Milloy — who had also previously established the anti-Trump Republican Women for Hillary PAC in 2016 and even spoke at the Democratic National Convention.

In October, the Washington Free Beacon began to look into this PAC, particularly in light of the substantial positive media attention the group had been receiving and the cash the group was injecting into select midterm congressional races in a handful of important states.

What the Free Beacon found — by virtue of Federal Election Commission filings — was that the “Republican” women’s group, which was first formed on Sept. 13, was initially bankrolled by just one donor: liberal billionaire venture capitalist and major Democrat donor Reid Hoffman, also a co-founder of LinkedIn, who donated $400,000 to get the group started.

Meanwhile, Hoffman also reportedly donated $3 million to Nancy Pelosi-affiliated House Majority PAC, as well as $2 million to the Democrat-aligned Senate Majority PAC and $1 million to a group composed of former Obama administration figures known as Forward Majority Action.

Those massive contributions were on top of maxed out donations to numerous individual Democratic candidates in the 2018 midterm elections.

“In terms of the Reid Hoffman donation, even a male tech billionaire and major Democratic donor recognizes the important role women should play in the Republican party,” Lim claimed. “We are pleased to have the support of donors across the ideological spectrum to ensure the voice of republican women is heard across the country.”

The Washington Free Beacon has recently done more digging into the financial backers of the Republican Women for Progress PAC. It found that the group is now supported by no less than three billionaire Democratic donors, two of whom are men.

Should Republican groups accept donations from wealthy liberal donors?

In addition to the $400,000 from Hoffman, FEC filings showed the group had received another $400,000 donation from Daniel Tierney, president of Chicago-based investment firm Wicklow Capital.

The group also received a donation of $200,000 from Kathryn Murdoch, a daughter-in-law of media mogul and Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch — and a progressive leftist activist.

Other FEC filings show that both Murdoch and Tierney are major donors to Democratic groups.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Republican Women for Progress PAC declined to offer any comment to the Free Beacon when asked about the substantial financial support they’ve received from major Democratic donors, the revelation that the supposedly Republican PAC spent $800,000 in support of Democratic congressional candidates in California, Kentucky, Michigan and New Jersey, and the PAC’s vocal opposition to the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

These purportedly Republican women really don’t like President Trump, and that’s perfectly fine. There is no rule that says all professed members of a party have to like that party’s current leader.

That said, in their opposition to the current president and head of the party they claim to identify with, these women have actually aligned themselves with individuals who are anathema to virtually every issue these women would nominally stand for, were they truly Republicans.

Unfortunately, these “Republican” women have associated themselves with the very people who pose an existential threat to this country, not just Trump, by virtue of their support for progressive leftist candidates and causes.

For that, they should be shunned by real Republicans.
