Breaking: Altered Election Docs Found, Can Be Linked to FL Dem Party

Share

The Florida Department of State has asked federal prosecutors to investigate altered official state election documents that may be tied to the Florida Democratic Party.

The department is concerned about “irregularities” related to the vote-by-mail process in at least four counties, Politico reported.

Naturally, one of the counties was Broward Country — home of notorious Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes and Florida’s ground zero for election “irregularities.” The others were Citrus, Okaloosa and Santa Rosa.

According to Politico, the altered documents were sent to voters whose mail-in ballots had been rejected but were being given a chance to correct the problems before Election Day.

Those documents, known as “cure affidavits,” were required to be turned in by 5 p.m. on Nov. 5, the day before the election. Some of the documents sent to voters, though, had been altered to show the deadline was 5 p.m. Nov. 8, two days after the election.

The department of state’s interim general counsel, Bradley McVay, received information about the altered documents on Friday.

There is evidence to suggest that the altered documents are tied to the Florida Democratic Party.

Do you think Democrats are responsible?

Federal prosecutors received emails sent to Florida Elections Division Director Maria Matthews that reveal possible Democrat involvement.

Citrus County Supervisor of Elections Susan Gill wrote an email to Matthews claiming that a voter received a phone call from the Florida Democratic Party before she was sent an altered form.

According to The Hill, Gill said she thought the change had been made because whoever sent the cure affidavit was confused about the dates, but Gill wrote that there was more to it.

“They have obviously gotten the deadlines for the (vote-by-mail ballots) and the Provisionals mixed up, but a bigger problem is the fact they actually changed one of the (Division of Elections) Forms,” Gill wrote in the email, according to The Hill.

That could be a criminal offense under Florida law.

Okaloosa County Supervisor of Elections Paul Lux also warned Matthews about Democrat involvement.

“Please pass the word to the FDP that they can’t arbitrarily add their own deadline to your form or VBM (vote-by-mail) cures!!” Lux wrote, apparently using the initials for the Florida Democratic Party. “This is crazy!!”

This revelation isn’t good news for Democrats and Florida election officials, who are already under harsh scrutiny for their apparent mishandling of the midterm elections.

According to Politico, the department of state’s McVay explained the significance of the altered documents in a letter to U.S. Attorneys Christopher P. Canova, Maria Chapa Lopez, and Ariana Fajardo Orshan.

“Altering a form in a manner that provides the incorrect date for a voter to cure a defect … imposes a burden on the voter significant enough to frustrate the voter’s ability to vote,” McVay wrote.

The Florida elections are getting murkier with each passing day.
