Kamala Wants To Enforce Equal Pay, One Look at Her Office Shows Her True Thoughts on Equality
California Sen. Kamala Harris — who also happens to be a Democratic candidate for the 2020 Presidential election — is doing everything possible to shore up a solid base of supporters she can count on at the polls.
On one hand, she hasn’t been in many headlines recently thanks to other candidates stealing her thunder, so I can’t blame her for trying. On the other hand, the way Harris is chasing after new attention looks like it’s backfiring in spectacular fashion.
The issue she’s trying to re-ignite — which many have called a myth based on contrasting evidence — is the “gender pay gap.” Sen. Harris announced a plan to develop a policy that would penalize private businesses if they’re unable to prove they’re paying men and women the same wage.
Although that kind of thinking has problems (such as ignoring merit-based performance), even worse is the fact that — within the walls of her Senate office and on her campaign, according to Washington Free Beacon — women are being paid less than men.
Harris’ policy, which is nothing short of asinine, would require companies to maintain an “equal pay certification” to prove men and women are on equal footing when it comes to pay.
If the company isn’t in compliance with the proposed policy, it would be fined “1 percent of their daily profits for every 1 percent of a gender pay gap that exists, unless they could prove the gap could be explained by other factors, such as experience or performance,” the plan read.
For companies whose male employees make more, the burden would fall on them to prove it’s not due to gender.
So, if Harris wants to stick to that proposal, she should have started with her own business dealings.
Surprise, surprise: Washington Free Beacon’s analysis found that the median salary was higher for men both in her Senate office and her campaign.
Specifically, the median salary dismemberment for men came in at $34,999 and women fell behind at $32,999. That means women working for Harris make .94 cents on the dollar compared to men. Nearly identical figures held true for an analysis for a previous six-month period.
So, it’s not a one-off situation — it’s a pattern. How embarrassing for her: A champion of equal pay for women is not providing her own female staffers equal pay.
The hypocrisy is real, folks.
“For too long, we’ve put the burden entirely on workers to hold corporations accountable for pay discrimination,” Sen. Harris’ website explains. “We’ve let corporations hide their wage gaps, but forced women to stand up in court just to get the pay they’ve earned. It’s time to flip the script and finally hold corporations accountable for pay inequality in America.”
She then proclaimed that her plan is “the most aggressive equal pay proposal in history.”
The Western Journal reached out to Harris for comment but has not yet received a response. We will update this article if and when we do.
Before her face is covered in hypocritical egg, Harris ought to make sure her own house is in order before pushing a plan she doesn’t believe in enough to set an example for others.
