Meadows Smokes Rosenstein: Your DOJ 'Can't Be Trusted to Investigate Themselves'

Share

When Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Donald Trump’s presidential campaign began more than a year ago, pundits on the left gleefully predicted that it would lead to the downfall of the president.

In an ironic twist, it looks more and more likely that it is the Obama-era Department of Justice that has some serious explaining to do, while President Trump may be vindicated.

Last week, several major sources broke a story that could be the Watergate of our time — but with Obama, not Trump, playing the part of Nixon.

Both The New York Times and The Washington Post revealed that the Obama administration placed an FBI “spy” within the early campaign of Trump, with the likely goal of using government resources to undermine a political enemy.

As we reported Sunday, sources have also identified that spy as a seasoned CIA operative with past experience disrupting elections.

Now, Trump has ordered the Department of Justice to start answering questions about this scandal.

“I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes – and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!” Trump posted Sunday.

That’s a start, but in the view of one key congressman, it doesn’t nearly go far enough.

Rep. Mark Meadows, a Republican from North Carolina, took to Twitter Sunday night and declared that Congress must be involved in the investigation to remove a conflict of interest.

Did DOJ officials purposely tried to spy on and undermine Trump?

“This is the right call from DonaldTrump — we’ve seen disturbing evidence that the FBI engaged in political targeting,”  Meadows said.

That evidence includes the Clinton-funded Steele dossier, the use of FISA wiretaps, and with numerous text messages from FBI officials openly discussing their desire to derail Trump.

“But the DOJ can’t be trusted to investigate themselves. Congress needs the documents, too. Rod Rosenstein: where are the documents? Show Americans the truth,” the congressman wrote.

It’s clear that Meadows, who heads the Freedom Caucus in Congress, means business. On Wednesday, he and two other congressmen sent an open letter to the president, urging him to order the declassification and release of Department of Justice documents related to the scandal.

“DOJ leadership has obstructed Congressional oversight for long enough,” Meadows wrote. (Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. DeSantis) and I asked POTUS to instruct the DOJ to release ALL relevant documents on potential FISA abuse, the initial investigation of the Trump campaign, and more.”

Meadows is right: It may be time to play hardball.

With every piece of new information, it looks like the swamp runs deeper than anybody thought, and the American people have had enough of this establishment-backed farce.
