Melania Intentionally Jabs Media in Health Update Tweet She Knew They'd Cover
First lady Melania Trump hasn’t been seen in public or by the media since she first checked into the hospital earlier this month to undergo kidney surgery.
The relatively routine surgery was deemed a success and Trump was released to return to the White House after being held for five days for observation.
However, she has kept a low profile since her return to the White House, and despite updates from both her spokeswoman and President Donald Trump himself, the media began to speculate wildly about the first lady’s condition and whereabouts.
Politico published a report on Tuesday that brought together some of the crazier conspiracy theories that had developed among the anti-Trump left, and it appears that article caught the attention of the first lady herself.

“I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I’m doing. Rest assured, I’m here at the @WhiteHouse w my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!” Trump tweeted Wednesday.
That Politico article had asserted that the “silence” from the White House in regard to the first lady’s health status and whereabouts over the past couple of weeks had given rise to several conspiracy theories.
Those theories included that she had undergone plastic surgery instead of kidney surgery, and was still in recovery. Other speculative theories — put forward by those who ludicrously believe the first lady and president hate each other — assumed she had moved back to New York City.
More wild and unlikely theories included that she had “flipped” on the president and was cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russian collusion investigation, or that she was holed up with the Obama family while writing a “tell-all” book exposing her husband.
The first lady’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, had previously released updates on Trump’s status and noted that she was resting and recovering in the White House while also conducting “several meetings internally with staff” to continue working on long-term plans and goals.
As to the absurd speculation floating around among the anti-Trump liberal media, Grisham had told Politico, “Sadly, we deal with conspiracy theories all the time, so this is nothing new, just more silly nonsense.”
“She is doing great. I wouldn’t characterize it as a long absence. She was hospitalized for almost a week and is now home and recovering,” the spokeswoman added.
As Politico itself noted in the article, the first lady is under no obligation whatsoever to the media or the public to reveal details about her health and whereabouts or what she does with her time, and it was already well known that Trump is a fairly private woman who would rather the media leave her alone.
That said, the public has increasingly come to view the first lady with admiration, favorability and respect, and many supporters of the first family have been anxious to hear updates in regard to her health and recovery from surgery.
Trump just provided an update to both her supporters and haters in one fell swoop, and did so in a way that those haters will have to cover what she said, even as it brings attention to the constant negativity they direct at her.
The first lady is generally a rather quiet individual who largely ignores the “nonsense” that circulates in the media about her, but she just fired a shot across the bow of the media that is sure to grab their attention and remind them that she is watching the ridiculous things they say and do.
