MSNBC Host Shows True Colors: Thoughts and Prayers 'Should Be Outlawed'

Share

There was a terrible mass shooting Wednesday night at a bar in Thousand Oaks, California, where a gunman savagely murdered 12 people with a handgun — including a sheriff’s sergeant who had engaged him with return fire inside the bar — before turning that gun on himself.

As has become predictable, many Democrats and liberal media pundits quickly jumped to demand stricter gun control laws — ignoring the fact that California has virtually all of the gun control laws they demand already in place — and ramped up their harsh rhetoric against gun owners and Republicans.

One of those was MSNBC host Chris Matthews, who in a conversation with Democrat California Rep. Jackie Speier on Thursday said that “thoughts and prayers” in the wake of mass shootings “should be outlawed.”

He suggested that Second Amendment advocates had a “neo-religious” reverence for gun rights that they mistakenly believe are “God-created.”

Matthews began by seemingly suggesting that even semiautomatic handguns like Glocks should be banned from civilian use, as he lamented, “The easiness with which we get a semiautomatic Glock, which goes beep, beep, beep, beep, beep. It doesn’t take any intelligence or skill or talent to use one of these guns to just kill people in their face, and they’re doing it now with some rapidity in this country.”

Speier replied, “So, you’re right. The moments of silence are about all that Congress has the guts to do, and it’s not good enough.”

With a sneer, Matthews interjected, “You mean, thoughts and prayers? I’m sorry, that should be outlawed. I know it’s well intended in some cases.”

After Speier indicated that she didn’t believe the “thoughts and prayers” were well intended, Matthews said, “It’s a throwaway line by a staffer who knocks off some script, some product, some wordage for somebody political to make it sound like they give a damn.”

Following some back-and-forth in which both the National Rifle Association and President Donald Trump were demonized for being resistant to demands for more gun control, Matthews launched into a rant in which he disparaged the president as being manipulative of his mindless and idiotic supporters.

Do you pray for people affected by tragedies?

He also revealed his own ignorance of the fact that the natural rights of American citizens — which include the right to keep and bear arms, as enshrined in the Second Amendment — were explicitly notated as being “endowed by our Creator” — or God-given, instead of government-granted — in the Declaration of Independence that preceded the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Matthews said, “For the President, it seems like just another cultural button to push. You know, like moving the embassy in the Middle East. One of these things like it’ll get him some votes in the evangelical community.”

“He says things like ‘protecting your Second Amendment rights.’ The culture war you’re up against is brutal,” he continued. “They just push these buttons and these people: ‘Oh, yeah, amen. Amen to that, Mr. President. You’re one of us. You’re one of us.’ It’s horrible. Not even about actual safety.”

“It’s not about people shooting each other, plugging 12 people in a bar. It’s about this almost neo-religious notion of the Second Amendment, as if it’s God-created,” Matthews added.

Speier then proceeded to blatantly lie about supposed “loopholes” in various gun control laws and who is and isn’t permitted to possess firearms by already existing laws, such as felons, domestic abusers and the mentally ill — all of whom are already considered “prohibited possessors” under federal law.

Matthews asked Speier if the new Democratic-controlled House would be capable of pressing forward with gun control legislation, to which Speier replied, “We’ll be able to pass gun safety legislation in the House. Now, the question is what happens in the Senate?”

Chris Matthews is a barely coherent, rambling talking head who is beholden to the liberal agenda and ignorant of the realities of the world around him and the foundation of the nation in which he resides.

On top of that, he has also shown himself to be a hateful bigot who would “outlaw” the incredibly common display of love and support from people of faith for victims of tragedies that is expressed via “thoughts and prayers.”
