NFL Legend Jim Brown Says Media's Attacks on POTUS Drove Him to Support Trump
Jim Brown played for the Cleveland Browns (no relation) between 1957 and 1965. During those years, he lost the rushing title once, to Packers’ legend Jim Taylor. During that period, he beat guys with names like Gayle Sayers, Alex Webster, Nick Pietrosante, Paul Hornung, Alan Ameche and Frank Gifford.
If those names don’t ring any bells for you, let’s just put it this way: That’s like beating a Republican primary field comprised of Ronald Reagan, Dwight Eisenhower, Teddy Roosevelt and Barry Goldwater. There weren’t exactly any George Patakis or Tom Tancredos in there.
After his career, Brown became best known as a civil rights figure and actor, neither of which particularly lends itself to membership in the Republican Party.
However, Brown has recently been moving that way with his recent support of the anthem and his relative dislike of players who choose to disrespect it for political gain. And now, he’s apparently saying he’s going for Trump in 2020 — and the media drove him in that direction, no matter what the “black community” thinks.
“I should be criticizing Trump on every level because he does certain things that call for criticism but when I look at television I see all these announcers become experts and they’re pointing the fingers and they’re not doing a doggone thing but pointing their fingers, I find myself really pulling for the president,” Brown said in an appearance on the “JT The Brick Show” on Fox Sports Radio this week. (Completely off the subject: nobody could come up with a better name for the show than that? I mean, I know I came up with the pseudonym Cillian Zeal, but come on.)
“Now, that would make me very unpopular in the black community, very unpopular with a lot of Americans,” Brown said.
“But I think that there are certain good things that are coming out of this presidency because we’ve never seen anything like it,” he added.
“I believe that I have to work on myself first to be as good a person as I could be to back up my country as best as I know how,” he added.
According to the Daily Wire, Brown had met with the president-elect at Trump Tower to discuss how to help the black community.
That didn’t draw much ire. His comments in support of the anthem began to get some criticism, but still nothing much. As for this one, well — one hopes he’s prepared.

See, it is worth noting that Brown’s history isn’t as spotless as the media’s made it out to be over the last 60 years. The NFL Hall of Famer has a relatively dodgy history involving his relations with women, with the Cleveland Plain Dealer comparing him to Ray Rice and saying that their treatment of Brown was evidence of “the NFL’s indifference toward off-the-field behavior.”
This was mostly over a half-century ago. His most recent troubles are about 20 years old, and while they get mentioned, it’s mostly as an afterthought.
Once you start standing up for Donald Trump, that sort of thing stops being an afterthought and starts being the only thought.
I’m not going to pass judgment here because most of these are accusations and not convictions. I’m not the media, however — and I get the feeling Jim Brown is about to discover what happens when you aren’t on their side, especially when you say they drove you to support Donald Trump.
