Trump Unveils School Safety Plan Libs Will Hate and Vets Will Love

Share

In the wake of the Parkland school shooting, President Trump has unveiled plenty of new ideas to tackle the possibility of such attacks in the future — and liberals haven’t exactly liked all of them.

First was Trump’s proposal to train and arm teachers in order to take down potential attackers. That caused a massive outcry among gun-grabbers everywhere.

Now, he’s about to make them even more furious.

According to the New York Post, a plan unveiled by the White House on Sunday would “steer military vets and retired cops into the educational system — and provide firearms training for ‘specially qualified’ school personnel.”

“Trump also called on Congress to pass pending legislation to strengthen instant, federal background checks on gun buyers, and earmark $50 million annually for technology and other programs to prevent school violence,” the Post reported.

“Other proposals include having every state follow Florida’s lead in allowing judges to issue ‘extreme risk protection orders’ so cops can seize guns and ammunition from people who pose a threat to themselves or others.”

Such measures became a subject of national debate after it was revealed both the FBI and other officials had received tips regarding the Florida shooter but had refused to act on them, in spite of the fact that police had visited the shooter’s home dozens of times.

According to ABC News, most of the authority to impliment the measures would be left up to the individual states. However, reforms would be considered by a new commission chaired by Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.

“Additionally, the White House is calling for an audit and review of the FBI tip line, directing the Department of Justice to partner with willing states to train qualified school personnel and calling for a review of expanding mental-health programs and patient-privacy laws,” ABC News reported.

Do you think Trump's plan will make schools safer?

DeVos said that the president’s strategy was “a pragmatic plan to dramatically increase school safety and to take steps to do so right away.”

“We’ve had to talk about this topic way too much over the years and there’s a been a lot of talk in the past but very little action,” she said.

“I have to give credit to the students and their courage and consistent call for action.”

While that’s plenty to digest in one sitting, the biggest news may be the plan to steer veterans and former police officers into to school system. Target hardening within our public education system has been one of the key issues being debated since the Parkland shooting on Feb. 14.

Putting vets and law enforcement into the classroom is, for those who want to strengthen our ability to prevent such attacks, a stroke of genius. For liberals, who think that the answer is to jettison the Second Amendment as much as humanly possible, this is going to be horrifying.

For Donald Trump, that sounds like music to his ears. The fact that Betsy DeVos is involved is just an added bonus.
