PETA-Style Vegans on the War Path Propose New Tax for Meat Eaters

Share

If there’s one thing we know about liberals, it is that while claiming to be tolerant, they are far from it. In fact, they will push their agenda on anyone who disagrees with them, all in the name of tolerance. The irony is unsettling.

Now vegans, in the style reminiscent of PETA, are now proposing that we tax meat in the same way we tax cigarettes.

In a recent report by the anti-livestock farming organization Farm Animal Investment Risk and Return (FAIRR), a special tax on meat is a very real idea circulating around liberal circles.

“Could taxation of meat products be a way to mitigate these global challenges?” the report asks. “The pathway to taxation typically starts when there is global consensus that an activity or product harms society. This leads to an assessment of their financial costs to the public, which in turn results in support for some form of additional taxation. Taxes on tobacco, carbon and sugar have followed this playbook.”

First of all, taxes in the United States have nothing to do with a “global consensus.” They are generally determined by the United States Congress and state elected officials. Liberals might not like the idea, but that’s how a representative democracy operates. Second of all, there’s a global consensus that meat is harmful to society? That’s news to us.

FAIRR’s head of investor engagement, Rosie Wardle, tells Futurism why she thinks eating meat is harmful. However, it’s probably not what you’re thinking.

“Meat consumption is also one sector where both the issues of environment and health overlap,” she says. “We feel that everyone should have the right to a healthy and nutritious diet, and ideally that should help promote a shift towards eating more plant proteins, which is healthier and better for the planet.”

In essence, eating meat is harmful to the planet. Also, did you catch when she said about our “right”? As PJ Media points out, “In other words, be a vegetarian whether you want to or not — because it’s your right. Eh?”

But this is typical of the left. Progressives will force their agenda down your throat whether you like it our not. After all, it’s your “right” to save the planet.

However, Josef Schmidhuber, deputy director of the trade and markets division at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), said the idea of a special tax on meat has some very serious ramifications.

“So if you have a beef tax, who will you tax out of the market? Those who are poorer,” he told Futurism. “And that’s a bad idea, because you penalize those who need to increase their meat consumption. We call this model ‘regressive tax.'”

In other words, it’s not the wealthy who will be affected by this tax, but rather the poor.

Wait. I thought that liberals were all about helping the poor and were so compassionate? I guess not.

You see, liberals don’t care who gets run over as long as their agenda is passed. That’s why liberals have no problem attacking an African-American conservative while claiming they are the party of civil rights.

A special tax on meat is just another example of how liberals want to step in and tell us how to live. It’s not about the tax, it’s about their agenda.

But for this conservative, I think I’ll just go ahead and offend these liberals and head over to the closest In-N-Out. After all, Beef: It’s what’s for dinner.
