Watch: Rosie O'Donnell Thrills MSNBC Panel by Suggesting Military Coup to 'Get' Trump

Share

Rosie O’Donnell had an MSNBC panel in uproarious laughter Thursday after she said that she wanted to send the military to the White House to “get” President Donald Trump.

The panel, hosted by Nicole Wallace, discussed with O’Donnell how difficult it was for her to accept that Trump had won the 2016 presidential election.  She brought up that at the time, she had called for martial law to delay Trump’s inauguration.

“What I wrote on Twitter was we should impose martial law until we make sure the Russians weren’t involved in the final tally of the votes,” O’Donnell said. “And people were like, ‘Martial law? What’s wrong with you?’

“He wants to send the military to the border,” Wallace said, referring to Trump’s suggestion that military force might be used at the southern border to stop a caravan of people trying to get into the United States illegally.

“I want to send the military to the White House to get him,” O’Donnell said.

Despite the very disturbing nature of her statement, the panel erupted in laughter, as if this were a much-needed and lighthearted break from the terrors of the Trump presidency.

The panelists all appeared to be in agreement that Trump’s suggestion to use the military to protect national security at the border warranted martial law being imposed on him.

“I don’t know if I can top that,” Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson laughed over O’Donnell’s proposal. “That’s actually a pretty good idea.”

Do you think Rosie O'Donnell really wants a coup against Donald Trump?

The panel’s laughs at O’Donnell’s suggestion were bitter ones, as if things would have all been better had everyone just listened to her back when she originally called for a military insurrection.

O’Donnell’s tweet from January of 2017 shows that she did indeed call for military intervention when she realized that Trump would be sworn in as president of the United States.

“I FULLY SUPPORT IMPOSING MARTIAL LAW – DELAYING THE INAUGURATION – UNTIL TRUMP IS ‘CLEARED’ OF ALL CHARGES,” she wrote emphatically in all caps.

O’Donnell also told the MSNBC panel Thursday that she got physically sick after hearing the results on election night, and that it took her a full year to recover from the shock (though she doesn’t seem to have fully accepted Trump as president even today).

Was O’Donnell “only joking”? It’s hard to tell. She did smile after everyone else laughed — but her call for marital law in 2017 seems like anything but a joke, and she apparently takes it seriously now.

But I’m sure that’s what she’ll claim if the FBI comes calling to investigate her apparent sedition.
