Dem Senator on How To Beat Trump: 'Punch Him in the Face'

Share

The Democratic Party and their allies in the predominately liberal establishment media have repeatedly shown over the past several years that they will use a magnifying glass to pore over and scrutinize any and every utterance from President Donald Trump for something that is controversial or unacceptable.

To be sure, Trump has a tendency to speak bluntly and use tough rhetoric that occasionally toes the line of civilized discourse, and he is routinely called out in those instances, including by some conservatives and Republicans.

However, when elected Democrats speak in a similarly blunt manner, using hyperbolic and even violent rhetoric that actually crosses the line of acceptability, there is no similar scrutiny or public shaming from the media — an obvious and disgusting double standard.

The Daily Caller reported the most recent example of this, which involved Democratic Montana Sen. Jon Tester suggesting that the best way for his colleagues to beat Trump in 2020 was to “punch him in the face.”

That remark from Tester came during an appearance Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” while speaking with co-host Joe Scarborough — who has utterly excoriated President Trump and his associates for far, far less — in response to a question on how the Democratic 2020 candidates could best prevail over Trump.

Tester, who portrays himself as a moderate Democrat and has worked in favor of some legislation the Trump administration has pushed even as he is highly critical of the president, was asked by Scarborough, “Please, tell other Democrats how to do that going into 2020.”

The senator suggested his fellow Democrats should refuse to take the “bait” offered by Trump and proceeded to smear the president as “disgraceful for the country” and called him a racist, prior to mentioning a couple of issues where some agreement might nevertheless be found, such as reducing the high costs of health care and education, or finding solutions to the problems at the border.

“I think those — the kind of issues that really hit home, how you’re going to invest in infrastructure and how you’re going to pay for it — I think those are the issues that really will move the folks who will get you elected,” Tester said.

“And I don’t think, even in states where Donald Trump won big, that it does you any good running away from Donald Trump. I think you need to go back and punch him in the face,” he said.

Are you sick of the left's double standard on violent rhetoric from politicians?

“The truth is this guy is bad for this country,” he continued, mentioning the mounting budget deficit — which is due to overspending from Congress — and asserted that Trump has alienated American allies while embracing authoritarian “despots.”

Incredibly, given the rapidity with which Scarborough and his crew have attacked Trump and his associates over the slightest misstatement, the co-host showed absolutely no reaction to Tester’s violent rhetoric and simply moved along to another subject.

Had Trump or one of his top allies said something similar about the need to “punch him in the face” with regard to a particular Democrat, Scarborough and his crew, along with almost all of the establishment media, would be screaming themselves hoarse with demands for apologies and retractions.

They would also likely be forcing other Republicans to denounce the statement and distance themselves from Trump.

Yet, when a Democrat says as much, nary a peep is heard from those same folks in the media.

There also has not been any outcry when the president and his associates have been smeared as bigots and racists and Nazis and white supremacists, all of which can be reasonably construed as inciteful rhetoric that has already caused some on the left to lash out with actual violence in response.

In just the past month, elected Democrats openly likened border and immigration agents to Nazi guards at “concentration camps” — mainstream media even called for Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to be “doxed” or publicly exposed — which resulted in a failed domestic terrorist attack on an ICE facility in Tacoma, Washington.

There was no great outcry against such violent and inciteful rhetoric from the left that led to actual violence, just as there is no outcry against Tester’s violent rhetoric against the president.

Once again, the hypocritical double standard that holds Republicans accountable for everything while giving Democrats a pass on everything is alive and well — and as disgusting and intolerable as ever.
