Fact Check: Has 'Handmaid's Tale' Been Widely Banned, As '60 Minutes' Claims?

If you pay any attention to “60 Minutes,” you may have heard something ominous: Book are being banned, à la the Third Reich.

The program recently spent some time spotlighting Margaret Atwood, the author of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” the 1985 novel on which the popular Hulu show is based — and which is now apparently being “banned” for its content.

At the very least, that’s what “60 Minutes” and Atwood would have you believe:
