Feinstein Admits to Being Impaired During Fusion GPS Decision

Share

Earlier this week, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the transcript of a congressional interview with Fusion GPS founder Glenn R. Simpson without first consulting with her peers on the committee, including its chairman, Sen. Chuck Grassley.

In response, numerous Republicans blasted her, with President Donald Trump describing her as “sneaky” and Grassley likewise reportedly describing her decision to release the transcript as “confounding.”

Speaking with NBC News on Wednesday, however, Feinstein tried to backtrack by trotting out an unexpected excuse for her uncivil behavior: She had been impaired mentally by a severe cold.

“The one regret I have is that I should have spoke with Senator Grassley before,” she said. “And I don’t make an excuse but I’ve had a bad cold and maybe that slowed down my mental facilities a little bit.”

Yet her “mental facilities” seemed fine when she released the transcript Tuesday, alongside a statement in which she articulated her reasons for taking such action.

“The American people deserve the opportunity to see what he (Simpson) said and judge for themselves,” she said. “The innuendo and misinformation circulating about the transcript are part of a deeply troubling effort to undermine the investigation into potential collusion and obstruction of justice. The only way to set the record straight is to make the transcript public.”

Apparently, Feinstein resents that, while Democrats have been using Fusion GPS’ discredited dossier to chase unproven allegations Trump’s campaign colluded with the Russians to swing the 2016 presidential election, Republicans have been busy using real evidence to uncover disturbing links between Fusion GPS and the failed campaign of Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton.

Regardless, according to Talking Points Memo reporter Alice Ollstein, when she ran into Feinstein on an elevator Tuesday afternoon, this happened:

But about 24 hours later, Feinstein’s attitude suddenly transformed right before our very eyes when, according to CNN’s Manu Raju, she claimed she had been pressured to release the transcript.

Look:

I gotta admit that her changing stories do make me question her “mental faculities,” which do seem to be impaired even more than normal for a Democrat.

But they also make me wonder whether she may just be trying to protect herself from any potential legal repercussions.

According to the president, what “Sneaky Dianne Feinstein” did Tuesday was both “underhanded and possibly illegal.”

It’s unclear whether this claim holds merit, though it’s as obvious as day that Feinstein’s many excuses for releasing the transcript are as deceitful as the rhetoric of a taqiyya-practicing radical Islamist.

If nothing else, she’s truth-impaired, anyway.
