Good Samaritan Rescues Bag of Puppies Tossed Out of Car Along Highway

Share

From a young age, we learn what kinds of behaviors are acceptable at home and in society. While some have more attentive parents than others, many children are raised to know it’s wrong to hurt others.

Despite most of us knowing this, it seems some rationalize or draw the line in different places than others. Most people wouldn’t consider tossing a bag of puppies out of a car window to be an appropriate action, but that’s precisely what someone did.

It was early Thursday morning when a passer-by noticed suspicious activity on the side of Old Mueschke Road in Harris County, Texas.

Harris County Animal Shelter was contacted and sent investigators to the scene. They discovered the hungry puppies, out in the cold, looking like they’d been tossed from a car.

“This morning one of our Harris County Animal Cruelty Investigators responded to a call from a citizen who reported a bag of puppies being dumped from a car window on to the side of the road (south of 99 off of Old Mueschke Rd.),” they wrote on Facebook on Jan. 31.

“A cruelty report was filed and we are looking for more information from anyone who may have witnessed the action. The cold and starving puppies were brought to Harris County Animal Shelter and will be placed in temporary cruelty foster.”

“If you witness animal abandonment, please take action by filing a cruelty report at (832) 927-PAWS or 927PAWS.org. Provide video and photo documentation if possible.”

Melissa Correa with KHOU posted a video of the puppies along with some depressing news: She claims that originally eight puppies were found, but one had already passed away by the time they were rescued.

“WHO THREW OUT A BAG OF PUPPIES?” she wrote. “Harris County Animal Shelter Pets In Need is investigating a case of Animal Cruelty after officers found a trash bag full of 8 puppies early Thursday morning off Mueschke Rd/Grand Pkwy.

“ONE PUP was dead in the bag. You can adopt them at the end of the month.”

The puppies are now being taken care of by experienced handlers and will get all the food and care they need. Their future looks bright because they were found in time, but people are still concerned for the mother dog, wherever she is.

Meanwhile, the search for the culprit continues. Hopefully, he or she will be found and the mother dog will be rescued from repeating the cycle.
