Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen's Son Picks SEC School for Basketball
Scottie Pippen Jr., the son of Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, committed to Vanderbilt University on Friday.
Pippen Jr., a four-star prospect, made the announcement on Twitter, thanking God as well as his family, coaches and trainers who helped him reach this level.
“I would like (to) thank God for blessing me to be able to play the game that I love,” he said. “I would also like to thank everyone who has ever supported me. A huge thank you to my parents and the rest of my family for always supporting me and helping me be the best that I could be. I would like to thank my coaches, trainers and people around me who have pushed me to the next level and helped me reach me where I am today. I want to thank all of the coaches who took time and recruited me.
“With that being said, I would like to announce my commitment to VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY #AnchorDown.”

The only other Power 5 program that offered Pippen a scholarship was Washington State. His other offers included Colorado State, UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara.
Pippen said he went with the Commodores because of the relationships he formed with the coaches as well as the opportunity to go to school with a prestigious academic reputation.
“I picked them because I have a good relationship with the coaches,” Pippen told 247 Sports. “I like the school a lot. I think it’s a great fit for me academically and athletically. I feel like they needed me at the point guard position.”
“They just needed a point guard,” he added. “They want me to come in right away and be able to play the point and help run the team.”
Pippen is a 6-foot point guard who is ranked No. 30 at his position in his class. He played high school basketball at the famed Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles, which also produced 2018 No. 2 overall draft pick Marvin Bagley III.
That school is also home to many other “celebrity kids,” including the sons and daughters of Will Smith, Kris Jenner, Kevin Hart and Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Pippen’s father put up an Instagram post to congratulate his son on the decision.
Pippen Jr. also talked about how it’s beneficial to have a six-time NBA champion as a father.
“He helps me on the court, giving me pointers,” Pippen Jr. said of the Chicago Bulls legend. “Having him around helps me a lot.”
The addition of the younger Pippen gives Bryce Drew and Vanderbilt three commitments for the Class of 2019. Pippen joins four-star players Dylan Disu and Austin Crowley in the Commodores’ incoming class.
