Heartbreaking Moments Owner Allows Pig To Mourn Loss of Best Friend

Share

Humans are not the only creatures that seem to mourn the passing of their loved ones. Elephants and horses have been known to stand watch over dead companions for hours, some even appearing to cry.

Dogs show signs of what humans interpret as sadness both in the loss of their fellow canines as well as their human masters.

It’s impossible to know what really goes through these animal’s brains when they are confronted with mortality, but it seems like they do grieve.

In fact, if an animal does not see its dead companion but just knows they left, they can pine away as they “wait” for their friend to come back.

Sometimes the kindest thing to do is to let them see the body, so they can understand — in whatever capacity is possible — that they are truly gone.

This is true for many animals, but pigs are intelligent critters who seem to catch on to more than we might give them credit for.

Spot and Sientje were two pigs who lived an idyllic life on a charity farm. They had spent 13 years together and were fast friends.

Rachel Vos, from Belgium, posted the moment that Spot was allowed to see his dead friend’s body, and it’s breaking people’s hearts.

Sientje is wrapped in a blanket and covered in flowers, his body resting in the sunshine on the grass.

Spot comes over, snuffles at the body, and then rests his head on his companion’s blanketed side.

After resting it there for several moments, Spot gently sniffs at Sientje’s cheek, as if to make sure it really is his friend.

Before the clip cuts off, Spot licks his old friend’s cheek in a final farewell.

Hopefully, Spot was able to make new friends with other critters on the charity farm to help fill the void that Sientje left.

Many people don’t think animals have feelings, but videos like this make that seem questionable. Have you ever experienced an animal grieving?
