Actress Patricia Heaton Receives over 700 Prayers for Teen in Uganda. Delivers Them in Person
Successful actors and actresses have to work hard, and when they finally put a project to bed, you might expect for them to indulge in a little rest and relaxation. But not sitcom veteran Patricia Heaton.
Heaton rose to fame on the legendary sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond” and went on to star in ABC’s long-running show “The Middle.” Yet when its final episode aired this spring, the acclaimed actress didn’t head for some tropical shore.
Instead, she made her way to Uganda. Why? To share some very special messages with a 14-year-old boy living in the Imvepi refugee camp.
The lengthy conflict between North and South Sudan has lead many to flee down to more relatively stable Uganda. Just because the camp’s residents are surviving, though, doesn’t mean their lives are easy.
Heaton saw that firsthand since she and fellow “The Middle” actress Jen Ray visited the camp immediately after the show’s finale. She’d come as a representative of the humanitarian nonprofit World Vision USA.
Prior to her trip, the actress had asked her social media followers to offer up prayers for Victor, a young refugee whose plight World Vision had highlighted.
For most public figures, such a statement would’ve been little more than virtue signaling, a way of displaying their own particular piety.
But Heaton’s fans responded, showering her with over 700 petitions for Victor. And Heaton herself followed through, personally carrying the prayers to the young man.
“I pray for the healing of Victor and his family’s hearts as well as the hearts of the leaders of his country,” one individual said. Another added, “God, please let Victor know that you are with him.”
Heaton personally delivered the believers’ messages to Victor. Additionally, she interacted with other young refugees and even cooked for them.
This isn’t the first time the actress has aided the dispossessed. In 2017, she traveled to Jordan to interact with Syrian regufees.
Such commitment to aiding the least of these shouldn’t surprise anyone familiar with Heaton’s spiritual commitments.
Reflecting on her own success and her desire to give back, she told The Catholic World Report that Christ “is the one making things happen.”
